Description The mighty Jupiter. Discovered in Classical times and 4th brightest object in out skies. Largest planet in our solar system. Gas giant with a massive gravitational field. This allows it to suck up all the largest of the meteors that float around threatening to hit earth one day. Luckily Jupiter is there to behave like a giant space vacuum cleaner, so for now we are safe! Last week Jupiter took a massive hit creating an explosion larger then earth!

The red spot on Jupiter is a storm that has raged for hundreds of years.
Did you know the poles of Jupiter actually spin faster than the rest of Jupiter!
I've painted one of Jupiters Moons, Io. Larger than earth, Io gets caught up in the gravitational pull of Jupiter and contributes to the massive storms that rage around this stormy planet.

Lots of interesting things to find out about this giant planet... Go search Tinternet if you want to know more!

Painted in Acrylic Ink and metalic pens!

40 x 50cm on watercolour board.

Space looks spectacular! It's amazing how the emptiest thing in the universe looks so lively. o_o Umm... maybe it's the way it was photographed/scanned, but Jupiter itself looks quite flat, especially with the beautifully shaded Io right next to it.

amyhooton In reply to 0Hamster0 [2009-08-12 17:45:29 +0000 UTC]

That is a very very nicely phrased critique. I thought the same but my friends here kept saying it did look round. "Well obviously it looks round, but does it look 3d," I kept asking. Anyway, I'll come back to it once I figure out how to adapt it to look like "the beautifully shaded Io right next to it" without loosing the gorgeous details of the surface. Thank you, greatly!

No worries, just trying to be helpful. To be fair, the edges of Jupiter do look 3D.

Very good vibes from Jupiter. I like the contrast of light colors and dark Universe border.
