Well I'm glad I didn't pretend to know what you were talking about! But its all good. My cousins in Beijing were telling me about Tagalog language and how flexible it is!

Well I'm not sure they know it. maybe- they are very good at Chinese... so perhaps their linguistics have branched out? But they all went to international schools in beijing so therefore they seem to know lots of people who speak Tagalog.

I like the idea of a rotatable picture. It's applicable to all your wonderful works. There's always another angle to them and this one's got lots. Fabulous and intricate. Great! Have you ever noticed that you can take any random section out of any your artwork and it will also be a beautiful work in its own right!

And yes I have noticed what you noticed. Its just one the the things with working with beautiful colours and the golding details... You could create millions of "details" from each one... hmmm

Hmm, now I wonder what would happen if you could rotate that with five people at the five points.... Oh dear I've watched too many strange films! Regarding the greater exploitation of your wondrous works, there is an ancient saying that came from a situation of great mirth and merriment in one of Plato's dialogues over someone breaking a vase and having 'made the Many out of the One' (referring to the debate over whether the Universe is actually 'One' thing or 'Many' things) and ever since has been happily translated into mass production (= making many out of one) - but therein lies the source of profit!

So its thanks to the Greeks for capitalist consumerism too eh! I know some artists who only ever sell prints of their works and keep the originals for the future.. Hmm, Its an interesting idea! I've actually been considering offering the originals for sale on dA..?
I found out my next exhibition is in August at any rate... in Ardfern - (where the masked party was). So I need to get some of my new landscapes framed soon...

rad-ix In reply to amyhooton [2007-07-03 09:15:46 +0000 UTC]

That's a tricky business with sales. On the one hand selling an original is straightforward and rewarding but on the other, high quality prints can usually be sold at a better price to a greater audience and preserves the original for exhibiting. It really depends on where you are heading with your work. In the right circles (of people who can truly appreciate what you are doing) there is a different emphasis - on that of you as the artist - rather than on the art alone. Great news with the exhibition!

amyhooton In reply to rad-ix [2007-07-03 09:27:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes, its true. But I tend to find at the moment, exhibitions are few and far between and not having a solo or even joint show with another artist on the horizon, I could do with the cash! The exhibition in Ardfern is a really good quality local show for local artists in a location where art is really appreciated but the limit is four paintings - which is actually more than previous years - but obviously thats not that many. I usually sell one or two from there... And painting landscapes helps the money out of peoples pockets but I'm pretty skint right now and birthday month is upon me. So I need to promote my art somehow a bit more in Edinburgh I guess.. eeek

emm it looks great, but... its pentagram, not tetragrammaton. tetragrammaton is a symbol of 4 hebrew letters witch means name of God (divine name?). it looks like this [link] tetra- means 4, penta- five (pentagram), hexa- 6 (hexagram) [link]

its easy to confuse these words and terms hope u dont get offended or something

amyhooton In reply to HSM-Version-42a [2007-07-02 11:03:01 +0000 UTC]

"Te Tra Gram Ma Ton" - each part of this word was asigned to one of the 5 points of the star. Starting with the top left and working round clockwise. It is confusing because of the greek tetra but it is correctly read in this contest as the hebrew te tra.

Thanks Julia. I believe she was delighted. Its so nice to be able to take part in a contest in some way. I usually find the themes way too demanding/vague/boring for my style... But this was fun... But perhaps its also good for me to work within a theme as it forces me to focus on something... Hmm...

hurray! thats good. yeah, i always want to enter contests but when I try to force myself to create a certain work, i usually end up with junk (at least I think so anyways). but yeah. sometimes it can be fun to follow a theme for a while and see what you come up with

How delightful, and what a wonderful idea! It's looks very magical and spiritual and I love the lightness of it and the delicate outlines. I don't think the importance of the religious symbol is in any way diminished by your represenation, on the contrary: flowing divine love....
