Prints yes. But not this Dis. I'm thinking playboy centerfold Dis.

I like this version of her rather than the newer ones. She has beard, looks dwarwish, but doesn't just look like another male.Β

I'm not here to deny anyone's preferences. However, since Tolkien described dwarven women as indistinguishable from men, it would be silly to feminise LotR-universe ones. :]
If I ever illustrate other fantasy world dwarves, I'll stick to their descriptions also. It's only fair.

From a distance I thought she was doing fire bending, like in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Then I saw the stick in her hand. Β
Love the shading and lighting in this, plus the seriousness in her face. She seems to be quite a badass if you don't mind me saying. ^^

To keep up with those two little adorable hellions, oh yes.
It kind of makes me think of what Dis might have been like when she was little.

Not a problem! It's appreciated that you're looking out for people staying true to the description - and quite refreshing from people telling me how to 'fix' the drawing so she actually looks female. :b

BusterStar [2014-01-19 02:14:45 +0000 UTC]
The problem with Tolkien's female dwarfs if you draw them right is that you have to keep telling people they are Tolkien's female dwarfs. Β The dwarf part is always pretty clear... Β If you can tell they are female dwarfs you did it wrong.

Oh wow she makes me happy. She sure rocks that beard, it's somehow subtler than you would expect for something so... full! I like her posture a lot and I think you did a good job on her proportions. Although she is just sitting, her pose is dynamic which works well. Good job!

Since Tolkien was never specific about dwarf ears, we really can't say for sure - who knows, maybe AulΓ« made them pointy to piss off Yavanna. ;]

True, the only thing that Tolkien does say is pretty much "Nobody can tell dwarves apart":
"For the Naugrim have beards from the beginning of their lives, male and female alike; nor indeed can their womenkind be discerned by those of other race, be it in feature or in gait or in voice, nor in any wise save this: that they go not to war, and seldom save at direst need issue from their deep bowers and halls. It is said, also, that their womenkind are few, and that save their kings and chieftains few Dwarves ever wed; wherefore their race multiplied slowly and now is dwindling."
