This author rocks. Just like Kenichi's constants drips to death were used as jokes, but were instead foreshadowing to his revival after Koukin killed him, this was also foreshadowed well enough not be called as an asspull. While Apachai's death would have been the example of Katsujin-ken's futility, Akisame's back up is instead the showcase of Life Saving Fists power.

Actually I saw Apachai's imminent death as the Ultimate Victory of Katsujin-ken. I mean, Apachai pretty much came back from the dead only to protect his beloved disciple. Even Agaard was totally WTF when he saw the sheer determination and power that was driving Apachai. It was the Ultimate Katsujinken-will-turn-you-into-an-unstoppable-behemoth-of-Righteousness-and-Good Scene.

Oh, my mistake. I was referring to his death. After his "death" and revival (This is how you do it, Jesus: Have the animals as your friends, befriend monsters like Agaard and come back from dead through the power of your heart, not because your old man said so.) everything went to hell. XD But when he was still "dead" I was thinking very cynical thoughts that if this would be darker manga, all of Kenichi's masters would die leaving him behind and their killers would be in Big Lock, ready to break out any moment. Good thing it isn't so.
And to think people complained so much about Apachai's comeback. -_- I tried not to look too much around as that "bash-fanservice-in-the-manga-we-still-read-full-well-knowing-what-it-contains" has tired me a bit.
After such awesome battles and all this hype over their power, I was thinking: how awesome could Apachai's fight be? It exceeded everything.
Masters of Katsujin-Ken have to be much stronger than their YAMI counterparts to hold back. This is also the reason why Saiga has a chance against his father. But still, he really must be enough to control YAMI like this. I wonder if maybe he feels inferior to his father and has done some illegal training methods to catch up to him. Salary Man also mentioned some serious methods he has been using. Ironical if the mighty Saiga has pumped himself full of drugs and after getting his ass kicked by Elder gets crippled for life due to side effects.

Go ahead, it's a real fun manga, lots of badass, epic and beyond the impossible stuff (The leader of Ryozanpaku, Elder flips TANKS for God's sake and in the arc this pic is from he took on a whole US Army and beat them senseless.

Ahhh my mistake my mistake, he took on US Army from ONE base located in Japan... still at the end of the arc he was standing on a flipped-over armored vehicle while soldiers were running away. He is so badass he can RUN on water

Depends on what kind of medicine are we talking about here. Akisame uses "normal" medicine while Tsunade uses chakra. As for Chopper, he uses the most normal forms of medicine as far as I know.
