Description I promised a wallpaper a while back. Now since my schedule is a little more open I thought I'd finally deliver.

In case anyone is a little unfamiliar with my style, when I illustrate the Toa it try to emulate the same style as the 2001 flash game (Mata Nui Online Game) with an edgier feel.

I just realized that the panels are the same shape as the eyes on the original Toa figures!

Dear AndrakaNuva,
I has made a amazing artwork of the ultimate form of Makuta Teridax. Behold: MAKUTA NUI!

Let's see:

Tahu: Polynesian
Gali: Chinese
Lewa: African Maasai
Onua: Transylvanian
Kopaka: Tibetan
Pohatu: American Incan

Does this sound culturally accurate?

AndrakaNuva In reply to Chatterbeast [2013-07-02 14:49:01 +0000 UTC]

I think wrote them down in their individual descriptions description, but...

Tahu: Polynesian
Gali: Caribbean Islander (Those Chinese swords are the only 'hooks' I could find that were a recognizable weapon)
Lewa: Had mostly African influences (Songye Axe) but South American as well. (Took some inspiration from Yanomami warpaint/feather-dress)
Onua: always pictured Onukorans as industrial-age Europeans. I didn't want to rely on steam punk though so I focused on the physical aspects. I gave Onua Bio-luminescence like some low-light dwelling animals develop.
Kopaka: Tibetan is pretty accurate. I was also debating on making him influenced by Russian or Hungarian culture. Kinda left him ambiguous other than the sword.
Pohatu: He was based on the Aborigine culture.

That's cool. I just wrote down what I thought their cultures are like.

You all must realize that Bionicle is NOT dead! It lives in us! The three virtues guide us, how ever faintly, to Bionicle's once again great fandom, and life to children, and Heros! Bionicle for me was the base and concrete of my rpg's. I bet alot of you would say the same! Everyday, one of us is still building, and creating. The whole fact that Bionicle brought up HeroFactory should only bring glory to us! Lego should have, when out of idea's, look to the fandom. They are but one, we are many. WE think up new idea's everyday! I have. An idea that would one day bring not only back Bionicle, but as a cost bring back makuta. I wont realy say my theories here, but if you wana know note me. :3 Hero factory might one day meet The bionicle race! Dont forget, they travel vast worlds, while the bionicles just re-aquiered the knowledge of their technology and might be able to fly to planets as well! Nothing is impossible. We have to show lego that, with out bionicle, people will stop buying lego products to some extent.
Anyways, this picture/wall paper is fantastic! You brought the best out of our old hero's. I will later look at the rest of your work, and possibly be amazed. Especially Gali! (fyi: She's my favorite ;3) An idea for you, you could possibly write the follow up comics after Makuta's demise. I would have loads of ideas for it, and might grab alot of people for it as well, feeding idea's. I know school and what not is... Rather bothersome, but when you do get some time, please tell me what you think. ~Key

Very nice. Grade A work here.

I went ahead and cycled through the gallery, and I have to say, I am loving your redesign. The addition of tribal cultures to their overall look adds a bit of flair which, I feel, ultimately fits the lore of Mata Nui (the island, not the spirit).

The only thing I'm slightly disappointed with is that Onua (my personal favorite from oh-so-long-ago) doesn't get a culture to be based around. Although, I can say that you having turned his focus more to bioluminescence was not a bad compromise. Overall, I think Lego needs to see this and be told to get to work a new movie.

Gali is a blonde?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrakaNuva In reply to ChrisTheBlue [2013-04-02 16:23:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I based it on the toy design. Each of the Toa had a colored clear plastic cranium. Gali's "cords/dreads" are just an extension of it. If Kopaka had long "hair" it would be blue.

That makes sense, I guess.

I will but not to the extent of the original six. Schools has been busy and I have an internship this summer. I will probably do a few sketches of them in the future. I have an update coming up soon on what I'm planning for the rest of the Bionicle revamps.
