What is true about Roberto and what isn't will be made clearer in the coming pages. If you look on the previous page, Jerome whispers into the mockingbird's ear, but we DO NOT see him taking it to Roberto as he is talking to Friend Owl. I meant to have Jerome whisper a false truth into its ear, and make it SOUND like the mockingbird heard Roberto instead of Jerome. So Jerome was playing Roberto's part, in an attempt to make Lark feel better and get a comeuppance on Friend Owl,... and the affair and the plan may NOT have been true. Haha, nothing like spontaneous truth, Jerome... Yeah, it was quite clear that what the mockingbird was saying was something Jerome had invented, but ... well, I guess we'll find out later what Roberto is really up to.
And I'd completely forgotten about Roberto being gay, though it would have worked regardless, because what the mockingbird said was all made up anyway so I assumed none of it was necessarily true.
The somewhat surprising truth here is that Jerome actually does care about Lark's feelings.

In the first page Roberto was introduced, he told Lark he used to be gay. So Jerome uses that to give bad reputation to Friend Owl, not to Roberto, since THAT's the part that is not true. he is not really having an affair.
Make sense? Explain it to me.

I know. It's subtle, and that's why people are asking these questions that they do not understand what's happening on this page, so it was really hard page to present clear enough. Also, you really have to know each of the characters, including the mockingbird, to better understand what's at stake here.
