Description Comics will still be rolling as history is still full of stories for me.

So, in the 1950s, Russia wanted to have a way to invade countries that have rough terrain without much trouble. Anything on wheels would get stuck when traversing snow, mud, a forest or rocky ground but not a corkscrew. Take a tank or a jeep and exchange the wheels for two giant corkscrews that would rotate, therefore propelling the vehicle sideways and bulldozing anything in its way. I have found various names of this invention such as ZIL Screw Drive (after a Russian company that manufactures heavy equipment), Screw-Propelled Vehicle and Corkscrew Tank (which I like). With Russia’s terrain being mostly frozen tundra of ice and snow, this tank was ideal.

The problem… the Corkscrew Tank performed splendidly on rough terrain but not on GOOD terrain. Its speed was very slow and the corkscrews couldn’t be steered even in the slightest. So when the tank got onto flat ground it couldn’t go in a straight line towards a target or anywhere near. An army could stand and watch the show without any threat.

I have the image in my head of the tanks doing a donut on the spot. All puns are welcomed. And here’s a video clip to give you an idea of the contraption. [link]

ah. the corkscrew tank. even said that this tank weren't equipped with shock breaker.

Pretty much I would say the ones bold enough to "laugh" in Russia's face are the Finns.

You know for some reason I imagined Russia trying to invade the U.S. using these, he gets to New York, the marines are there, ready to fight, and that happens.

Marine 1: Hey Marine 2, can you hand me the Mayo?
Marine 2: Sure Marine 1!

.............Pffffffffffffffffffffffffft, I want a corkscrew tank! It looks fun.......Quick question, did anyone in the tanks become violently sick or did the tanks spin around slowly?

andrielisilien In reply to crazyfangirl4eva [2012-06-20 01:20:08 +0000 UTC]

The tanks were dead slow, so yeah, I got a bit carried away with the funny idea of it spinning in hyper mode

Oh, so that's what you mean by corkscrew. I thought they were testdriving the vehicle in the last panel, so I was wondering why the Russian's were making fun of their own inventions...are those guys the Green Beret?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andrielisilien In reply to HanaFa732 [2012-06-19 19:08:02 +0000 UTC]

The guys in the berets are just some other country's army... or it could be Russia's army making fun of themselves. I guess the corkscrew tank didn't dare show its face to the enemy
