Why are you not up there with the other great realist artist such as Lee Hammond and Carrie Stuart-Smith. This is as good as any I have seen of theirs, and I follow their work very closely. Thanks for the pleasure.

Wow, I don't see how you 'rushed' the shading, its PERFECT! I'm so jealous of this, I love it. Great work.

This is so amazing! I love it! I've been practicing shading and drawing people for years, but it seems to never turn out right. I like your shading tips! I'm definitely going to try them out sometime! Have you ever tried a self portrait? It seems much harder to me to do self portraits than other people. I'm working on an art project for my school and I wanted to draw a person....How long did it take you to draw this kind of stuff so I know how to time myself? I'd really like some input. You are totally my favorite Artist ever!!! Thanks!

oh my gosh, i love it! i love how you can get the shine on the eyes and make it so realistic, do you work from a photo or from out of you head? also, can you give me a few tips on shading? i can get an ok outline, but as soon as i try to add in the shading, i just goes downhill, i cant get the texture right! Do you use short or long strokes? sorry for all the questions. ^-^

Hey there,
Sorry for such a late reply, I'm so busy these days
Thanks for the compliments on my work
I love drawing and looking at eyes, because they are so complex. Here's a couple of tips I usually tell people that ask a similar question to yours.
Look and take in what you are trying to draw, really see what you are trying to create. A common mistake is to outline features, but in reality nothing is outlined. It might be slightly more shaded on one side to the other, but will hardly ever have a hard edge. I would always recommend putting down a very light shade of grey because you can rub out to go lighter (highlight), or press harder to go darker (shadow), but if you start with white paper and need to go lighter you can't.
I use mechanical pencils, they really are worth investing in. I recommend getting a 0.5mm and 0.3mm pencil, with leads from F to 4B. This should give you enough variety to reproduce almost all pictures.
Really practice shading, it's the key to realism. If you can notice the pencil strokes its not going to look real. There are loads of blending tips out there. But just to explain quickly, I use cotton wool to blend shading into a smooth finish. You must remember that you are not drawing with the cotton wool though, the shading has to be good to start with.
And as for long and short strokes, it really depends, if its a large area then larger strokes, the opposite for small areas. Make sure they are all in the same direction though. I find that shading lengthways in the direction of the facial muscles also helps.
Hope this helps,
Good luck.
Andy

I guess I must be seeing things because it looks incredible. If you hadn't said anything about the shading, I wouldn't have even thought about it.

Just taken a look at this drawing as regards the eyelashes.
I dont actually think that i have done a very good job on that piece haha!
But nevertheless, what you need to do is, get a very fine pencil. 0.3mm mechanical is great. and get a strong lead, something like a 2B. Then just flick the pencil in a natural manner to achieve a nice curled eyelash.
It takes some practice but you'll get it!
