Yes, my gut reaction was "Dick Tracy" when I saw these pictures. I loved that comic as a kid. I'm not familiar with the characters here, but the picture makes me want to know more.

Many Dick Tracy characters had features like these characters here. They would fit in quite well with a Dick Tracy plot.

That's funny because I'm not familiar with the Dick Tracy comics too, I must look them up! Thank you!

I don't know the TV series but I love these…a lot! There's a real Dick Tracy vibe to them (the comic not the movie or TV show); loads of character and very assured economical lines…beautiful.

I just looked up Dick Tracy comics and I see what you mean! Especially the eyes!

Thanks David! I actually like doing these, and they take longer than you'd think as I 'pretend' to get a flowing lines like they are second nature, but in reality they took me ages! re-d doing a chin or hair line over an over and over! I take my hat off to caricaturists. The programme is brilliant, I think, a bit slow to start but gloriously dark and bleak.

On a brighter note...how is Peter Capaldi?

I don't think you're unique in finding that it's hard work to make things look effortless. I remember reading about Mike Kalutta, saying how he was always suspicious of glib and casual drawing and that his own pencil layouts were always in danger of disintegrating from all the erasing and over drawing he does. The fact is it takes great skill to make things look this simple and you should be justifiably proud..I love em!

As for Peter? Well apart from being a brilliant actor he is also the consummate gentleman. Enthusiastic, generous to his fellow performers and co workers and a great champion of low budget 'get it done for the love of it' TV and movies. I worked with him some years ago on a very low budget Scottish horror movie where all he did was one day's work for hotel and lunch. The first time I worked with him on Dr Who he recognised me and came over and we reminisced about our shared day on the Scottish moors! He was telling me about his first experience on DW: "I was supposed to be inside a giant (censored) and these guys were throwing washing machine piping and buckets of slime at me…I fucking loved it!!" Being on Dr Who is like being part of a close family and Peter is like our new long lost uncle!

Well I for one cannot wait to see his era kick off! Such a great actor and I am in no doubt he will do this complete justice! Great to see you're still a part of that family!

I'll be a part of the 'family' for at least most of this year…but I'm getting itchy feet and feel like a change soon!

Great TV! TV is going through a golden age I think these last few years.

I agree.  Some time back I was afraid reality TV would eat up everything, but we've definitely been given some fantastic dramas in recent years.

Yeah We still have plenty of that crap on TV but thankfully it's getting outweighed by the good stuff
