Description This piece came about from a desire to continue the style of 'Tree Spirits' [link] and from 's gorgeous painting of a child at the foot of a tree [link] which stirred in me memories of a place I liked to go to sit and think...

ever on the ball pointed out my vignette was suffering, particularly at the top where the foliage ended without any soft gradations. Fixed now. Thanks Ben.

It is just freaky that you can draw trees that good. This is a very calming piece .. but I also find it sad for some reason... who knows what lurks in the depths of my..brain?

Thank you. I like to think it is calming too. I just thought even trolls need some quiet time to reflect too...
As for drawing trees - when ever my mind is blank and I let my pencil wander inevitably a tree is the result

Absolutely stunning! All the things apply to it that I said regarding 'Tree Spirit'. Your skills are amazing! The little thing sitting under it first reminded me of Yoda (Sorry! ), now it's more like a pondering elf. Very cute!

This really is lovely So calm and simple and beautiful.

I would have one small comment, though, which I know you won't mind me mentioning. The only thing I find distracting in this is the edge between the tree and the rocks on the left hand side. At first glance - and I'm not sure if you actually meant to do this or not - it looks just like a continuation of the sky / cloud interface. So for me, its the bit I end up concentrating on, trying to see whether that is tree and rock, or continuation of sky and cloud.

Oooo. That is awesome my friend!

I can see that you are going for a vignette thing, but its not really working, due to the uneven shape and lack of subtle gradation. I'd like to see the foliage extend to the top of the page OR have you do a true vignette in Photoshop.

But this is great Andy. I love it!!! Super job with the composition! That tree bark is so textural man.

Thanks, Ben. You're on the money as usual. Something about the framing is all wrong. I think I will go back and work in those subtle gradations as you suggest. Thankfully I have room to move on the original.
