Well while I'm not denying that we may never see any true romance become canon, what makes this difficult is...They heavy implied Ash & Misty for a long time. They still do actually even in newer episodes. And while I admit I haven't watched a lot of the other seasons, it seems to me like the creators of the Anime haven't hinted a romantic shipping with Ash since Misty. The only time that has been implied is Melody's teasing in Pkm 2,000, and several pokemon with Latias disguised as a human girl to name one.Β Again I don't know about May or Dawn, (I saw B&W with Iris) but it just seems to me that of all the girls Misty still gets more actual hints of romance in Ash's life.

Misty being a tsundere around ash, mostly yelled at him but grew into liking him, anime later turned her to just a friend though
May was originally mad at ash for destroying her bike, but they eventually gave in a friendship that was very mutual, they were evenly matched in skill
Dawn was more like ash's pupil throw diamond and pearl
Iris was a complete bitch to ash most the time, always belittling him and all
Serena's very friendly to ash, and sometimes can be seen with a blush when talking
