ZOMG CLIFFHANGER!!!!
Naw, I'm still going by the canon, so of course they won't kiss (herp derp). I know, we all wish they did, right? Whatever
Still, it's an obligatory gratuitous drama for a classic shoujo manga style and fanservice for the shippers, myself included 
So, that first panel actually has a proper background. It's supposed to be the wall. The nearly-invisible red bits are the patterns on the wall (yes, I saw that in the clip). I think they're giant red hearts or something. There aren't any clear shot of it. The best I could find is that they look like huge curves *shrugs* Meh, it ended up being almost completely smothered by the effects so I guess it doesn't matter.
The bg in the second panel is... meh. Really, what on earth was that supposed to be??? I myself can't even figure it out. I think it's actually alive and has a mind on its own....
And as promised, Stayne actually has an expression in this page. His stone-dead expressionless face totally gives me the creeps. Smirking evilly is better than a stony, blank, emotionless face.
Stayne, are you sure you aren't related to Snape and/or Saurva? You three looks so goddamn alike it's creepy!

EDIT: Coz it was brought to my attention. Both Stayne and Alice have brown eye(s). I checked in every single movie clip and trailer and screenshots. Even in the really really close zoom-ins Stayne's eye is still brown. The only one picture where Stayne's eye is not brown is in the movie companion book where he wears that black robe with a crow perched on his arm. Unless my sources are wrong, that is >____<

I think this movie had a blooper in it that they didn't edit out. When he pushes her, his lips are puckered as if he's fighting a grin! I think Glover was about to laugh or maybe he did right after but they didn't replace that 1-second scene. I loved it still though. Because of Crispin Glover his character has some mischievous humor and charm on him and I really liked that. Made it different from the evil henchman stereotype.
Your art rendition is also very beautifully made! There's a lot of Stayne art but not all is good art. Yours is some of the few good ones around. :3

Well, I didn't see that split-second-of-a-grin, but when I drew him dead-panning his line, it just made the scene look stupid, so I gave him that grin. Now you made me curious *off to re-watch the scene*

At 0.10 secs. Ok, I noticed now there's no cut. The angle changes and he's still pressing his lips before he starts talking. And you hear him deadpanning but all his emotion is at his eyes. He's very expressive in his eyes. Or then that's me noticing because I think the eyes are very important and I pay a lot of attention to them.
For example, at the end after Hatter says 'Fairfarren' to Alice, the few moments before he fades from her view he's giving her the most emotionally heavy expression I've ever seen. And it's all in his eyes.
Plus I was obsessed with the guy so I kept watching his scenes and taking screencaps of as many as I could and over-analized them. I have a very specific view of Stayne now because of it.

Eyes are hard to be emotional in cartoon images, though. Cartoons don't have the subtlety of real life stuff. I have to actually PUT and expression on Stayne's face in the drawing or else the readers won't see it. Not if they weren't hardcore Stayne fans that can visualize him PERFECTLY in their minds

Oh, but you did very good with his smirk. Your capture of the actual mischievousness is perfect. :]
Just pointing out that it was there in the movie as well so you didn't add it and change anything. More likely you did catch it in his voice even if it wasn't that obvious at first.
I also like playing movies and only listening to them without watching the screen. That way you can "hear" the emotions and expressions better and it helps when putting them into art.

I've seen a few people complain that when people draw Stayne manga-style they change his nose and such, so... yeah.
Mmm, this IS a proper (albeit over-dramatized) adaptation, not a fanfic/fancomic, so I'm sorry about that. No kissing

There actually in an old Yahoo group some manga-style drawings of him from early last year, straight from Japan that keep his nose...but not all of them, sadly.

Yes, but the promo shots of Stayne were, obviously, released BEFORE the movie, so the artists in Japan along with dA were drawing Stayne long before the April date.

Yeah, I have read the actual book in a local bookstore. Me and my friend laughed at every page of the book... He actually said, "Hey, looks like the artist isn't named "Narcisso" for nothing. He must be very narcissistic."

It ain't trick of lights either. In every movie clip, every screenshot, every promo picture, Stayne has brown eyes. There were close-ups aplenty and no blue eye in sight

No it isn't. Crispin Glover's eyes may be blue, but who knows if he wears contacts in the movie? All of the screenshots of Stayne that I have shows him having dark brown eyes.

Eh, there IS one picture where his eye looks blue/grey, which is the one in the movie companion where he wears the black and red robe thing. That's the only one, though. It's brown in the rest of the sources.
