Contest entry for ‘s Historical Disney ContestI was actually planning on doing Tinkerbell next, but then I saw this club was having a contest that I just couldn’t resist. For quite some time I’ve been wanting to do Maleficent, my all time favorite villain, and this seemed the perfect time for it. I decided to give her a normal complexion, because green skin isn't very historically correct.
Now about the outfit. It’s mostly inspired by this picture niborama.files.wordpress.com/2… of Catherine of Cleves (1417-1479). I made black the main color, because it’s also Maleficents. Her Disney outfit also has purple and pink in it and I managed to integrate them in the sleeves, the belt and the borders. In the picture of Catherine I couldn’t see if she also had a belt, but I think the one I drew suits the picture and could have been quite a possibility five hundred, six hundred years ago. Instead of a necklace, I gave Maleficent a brooch on her chest and I kept the little purse and vile which are attached to the belt. I figured that a witch or sorceress (maybe even normal women) would keep some herbs or potions on them. And if not that, you can just pretend our Mistress of all Evil has some money with her in her purse. Also, I decided that Maleficent could not be separated from her scepter and her dear pet, Diablo.
The hat is a horned headdress from around 1420, mostly based on this image: www.revivalclothing.com/images… I just made it a bit more elaborate to fit the dress. I know the picture doesn’t show any hair of the lady, but I tried it on Maleficent and it was just too ugly, really. So I gave her a little bit of hair or fabric, just to fill up the bald spot.
The background is based on Maleficent’s throne room in her castle. I played around a bit with the colors, but I do like the result

I have to say, THIS IS YOUR BEST PIECE YET! Maleficent is such an epic villain, my second favourite, and you captured her pose so well! I think that green skin wouldn't be historically inaccurate, since she is an evil fairy and fairies are also sort of not historically correct, but I think the fair complexion fits your piece way better.
I love the headdress with the veil and hell - you made a wise choice adding the black fabric, that lady was disgusting in the picture, I cringed when I saw her! Worse than Snow White's hag!
I also loves that you remembered she has magenta in her clothing, since most people don't. There's a fic where the villains compete in a Total Drama seasson in FFnet, and the author choose Maleficent's fear to be the colour pink, but it doesn't make sense, since she has it with her - hell, her lips and nails are pink if I'm not mistaken!
I love the purse and the vial in her sash - I always though that a witch should have a belt with potions and powders with her. I like the pearls in her puffy sleeves, it would be better only if they were black.
I love the glittering effect in the orb of her scepter, Diablo in his pose from the movie I think and the phosphorecent green in the background. Her face is also very accurate, wise choice to make her eyes green. Now the three most evil villainesses are a green-eyed trio: Grimhilde, Tremaine and Maleficent!

I never would have thought Maleficent was your favorite. Though, she does turn into a dragon, I always thought that others were better. No names rise at the moment...

When I was a kid, my mom got me a Sleeping Beauty promotional stand which you saw in stores when a new video would come out. I loved that thing, it was beautiful and had all kinds of lights in it and ever since I've loved pretty much anything that had to do with the movie

I like the glowy wings and evil face! The ghoslty green turned out really well. Of course the rest of the picture is pretty good too, but I don't need to tell you that all that pink and puprle hurts my eyes. XD
