Description My inspiration - Jeanette Cederstrom Karlsson. She and Micke were kind enough to allow me to use their photography. Thank you both so much!

In Norse mythology, Frigg or Frigga was said to be "foremost among the goddesses". She is a goddess of marriage, motherhood, fertility, love, household management, and domestic arts. She has the power of
prophecy although She does not tell what She knows. Frigg's name means "love" or "beloved one" and was
known among many northern European cultures with slight name variations over time.

Balder's mother so loved her son that she exacted a promise from all things never to harm him. Only the
parasitic mistletoe did not take a vow. Loki, the trickster god, gave a spear made of mistletoe to Balder's
blind brother Hod and helped him aim it at his "invulnerable" brother. Balder was killed. Frigg's tears became the berries of mistletoe. When Balder was restored to life, Frigg made mistletoe a symbol of love.

The goddess, Frigg, too late to extract a promise of innocence from the mistletoe and unable to destroy it
because of an oath she demanded that it remain off the ground and be dependent upon other trees, a parasite, where it would do no harm. On the third day after Balder’s death, Frigg was sitting under the tree where the mistletoe grew. She was holding her son close, while the tears dropped from her eyes. Some of the tears dropped onto the mistletoe arrow still in Balder's heart. The teardrops changed into small white berries on the Mistletoe. The berries negated the deadly poisonous effect and Balder was brought back to life! Frigg was so happy that she started kissing everyone who passed under the tree where the mistletoe grew and went on to promise that anyone who stood under the mistletoe would never come to any harm, they would receive a token of love instead...a kiss. {[link] }

impressive painting - my only complaint is that mistletoe berries are pearly-white (and so specifically tear-like) and definitely NOT red. Red berries? That'll be holly.

Thank you so much!

It's interesting that you point that out . My reference for that comes from [link] That was EXACTLY the effect I was going for actually . It was supposed to represent this paragraph (which I thought was absolutely BEAUTIFUL):

"Frigga is powerless to reverse the poison because mistletoe does not have roots and therefore is not subject to her. The grieving mother cannot restore her son to life. Her despair consumes her. Wailing and crying over her son’s body her tears wash the mistletoe berries changing them from red to white. This process reverses the poison and her son is resurrected."

Norse mythology is extremely interesting. It's actually a beautiful story. I picture Frigga holding her son in something that almost resembles the Pieta.

Thank you again for your comments

Thank you so much I apologize for taking so long to respond! Sometimes I get sidetracked

I had a lot of fun working on that painting. I had never really read the story of Frigga, so it was a learning experience.

I'm really glad that you like it

Beautiful piece, and nice to know that you asked to use their art, I know they've had problems with people just 'taking'.

Thank you so much!
I want to do some more paintings of Jeanette and Micke! They are wonderful people and I just love them to pieces. They do such beautiful work and have been so kind to me.
I always ask first unless it's stock. There are so many wonderful photographers out there...but I realize that is their art medium of choice and I don't want to do anything that would upset or offend anyone. Everyone I've asked on DA has been very kind and allowed me to use their work
