Description Pencil on paper
Fall 2009

I started doing this during October of 2009 I think. October is a Pro-life month.

Couple things about the drawing itself... I really like her mantle and her hair and the aborted baby. Her halo is very crooked (I did not have a compass unfortunately). The face is... interesting. Could be worse. Very sharp chin.

One of my most symbolic pieces. If you notice closely, right in front of the baby, on the mantle, is a tiny little rose that it's almost clutching in his fist. The child is Our Lord, as an aborted fetus. Our Lord says in Matthew 25:45:

`Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.'

Our Lord has united Himself perfectly with the sufferings of the world, particularly the least among us, the unborn.

The following is a prayer for life composed by Pope John Paul II:

O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life.

Look down, O Mother upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy.

Grant that all who believe in Your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build, together with all people of good will, the civilization of truth and love, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.

O Mary, Queen of the Unborn, pray for us!

I... wow simple yet deep in meaning (at least in my opinion). This is a very beautiful drawing.

This is a very interesting, although a bit terrifying, idea.

I meant the idea, of Jesus as aborted fetus. It's a scary idea, but I know there is a powerful message behind it.

As for the abortion itself... It does terrify me too. Although I sometimes ponder the other point of view, try to answer the question, why do people think it's okay to do this? What their reasoning might me? How could one not consider this murder? I know that there are some circumstances where people might consider this act justified, but still... I've never been in such situation but I think I wouldn't do it I can't imagine living with such guilt.

Yeah.

I don't think that most people actually want to have an abortion. I think most people are just desperate and scared, and they need a quick solution to a "problem", and abortion seems like an easy way out. We need to pray very hard for these women, and try our best to help them and show them that they don't have to abort their child!

I really like all of the patterning and shading you did one this one. I know you were kind of going off of Our Lady of Guadalupe, but this definitely has it's own feel to it. The stars are awesome too. What does the Greek text bordering her halo say?

Aodhagain In reply to Theophilia [2011-01-30 23:30:06 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... I think they were stuff like "Choose life" and "theotokos" or something. Or maybe Queen of the Unborn. I should have written it down, I forgot.

Yeah, I really really really like her mantle. The shading turned out really nice, and the detail and everything... I bet that would be very warm and comfortable to wear.

The stars I used white charcoal for too.

White charcoal? Hmm, I've never used that before. What's it like?

Aodhagain In reply to Theophilia [2011-01-31 00:57:05 +0000 UTC]

It's really hard to see, but in the right light, it just is shinier and a brighter white than the paper. It's a little bit like chalk pastels, only not NEARLY as messy.

Theophilia In reply to Aodhagain [2011-01-31 00:58:41 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, okay. I'll check them out sometime. Though I rarely use charcoal, because the stuff is so messy....

Aodhagain In reply to Theophilia [2011-01-31 01:00:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... it didn't really do much for me, but I thought it was nice for the stars. It mostly just smudges it when you do it over regular pencil.

Murder...is what it is...I could never do that.
EVER! EVEN IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!

Well, Mother Teresa always says it the best. "How can there be too many children? That's like saying there are too many flowers..."

How could anyone kill a flower? If only people could see that babies are even more beautiful than flowers.

It's, as John Paul II I think really addressed in the Theology of the Body, the problem of viewing people as objects, not persons. We've seen this in different extremes, such as communism and utilitarianism, and this is just a different strain of it.
