Hi All,With the introduction of Studio's recent introduction of their Beta version of Daz Studio 4.8...
I decided to try out the new IRAY render engine that was introduced along with their standard 3Delight render engine.
I have to thank and her wonderful intro to using IRAY... which otherwise would have warranted massive time wastage into just testing and understanding how it works. Please check her youtube video which is extremely informative! ( youtu.be/L5FZ5gS9v50 )
Anyway, this models I posed is not new and previously I used Luxrender to test this picture...

You can compare and see just how good this new awesome engine is.
So I have fallen in love with the render engine! And best of all... it is free!

Minor fliters in Photoshop... other than that, it is the render engine's own amazing capability. Thanks DAZ.

Great looking render. I'm curious, didn't you do anything special with the texture in order to get the specular highlights? I'm trying but not getting that any solid results there.

No specular lights were used as at that time, it did not register in iray. I played around with translucency and gloss, after converting texture to uber iray shader.

There is also good textures and not so great textures... And also the beta version keeps updating and I find at times the tools now vary in its capabilities. Now you can have distant light acting as photometric lights, you can choose specular too. So I guess rules have changed and you should really play around with it until you are satisfied.

I really like the skin texture here. Am still fiddling with iray although it has a bit of recognition of nvidia chips on Macs. I have to rely solely on CPU.

Lovely...I think I actually like the skin in iRay a bit better. If I had to say why I think it's because in the Lux render the skin appears dryer and in the iRay one it looks more moist and has more highlights. I also think the background in the iRay one gives it more atmosphere and make it seem more real.

Thank you. Your observation is quite right, although an expert in Luxrender may be able to do just as well or better.
Low light is still a problem as I tend to get a lot of noise in the render. Still need to learn from my mistakes.

LOL! That is one way of looking at it... but yeah it is fun fiddling, but not all textures will turn out as good, it is better is the textures are all ready in SS mode.
If not there is a way to work around it by making it SS with V6 material shader and ignoring the maps by holding the Command or Control key when double clicking on the shader.

I know that the Genesis Figures have been updated. Was this done with the updated figures?

You mean the std package of the models? Yes, you need to update that because they have a button to convert the current texture shaders to become applicable with the IRAY.
This is only necessary if you intend to use Iray. Please have a look at the basic youtube from as she is amazing at her breakdown and analysis!

It took me about an hour to render... but took me the most of 24hrs to learn about the lighting and skin texture that was just right. Different textures work slightly differently.
I think the more figures you have the longer it takes to process the whole light to texture computation behind it I guess.

This is truly an amazing work of art. I can't tell you how impressed i am, and how this images moves me... The fray renderer (and the way you uses it) really adds to the images as i have to say it's far more warm and touching than the lux version. Well done !

Well for me it was a diff of about 5hrs. Took me about an hour plus to complete the final render. Took me about 6hrs in reality. Although, if I were to try uber/advanced ambient lighting, I wonder if there is going to be any diff.

OK. So I found your problem. That video card sucks, and mobile to boot. You need an upgrade my friend.
My home PC has 2 Asus Strix GTX 980's. Athough I use Octane, the performance should be in the same ballpark. For that render and resolution, you should be able to hit 10 minutes of total render time or less with ease. The speed does make a difference in that it reduces time goofing around testing stuff.

Man I can't afford the upgrade as this is about only... hmmm 2yrs old?
I guess I will trudge along with the iMac until I can afford a Mac Pro, and when they put in an Nvidia Card, currently they have gone for AMD graphics card, which I believe the Iray is not happy to work with other than an Nvidia card.

Go check out Sicklefield's youtube. You will then get the basics. After that the world is your oyster! LOL
