Description Full view please. Also, there's a close-up of the face here.

I didn't realise it had been so long since I had submitted anything, so...whoops. I didn't really have the drive to really finish anything, though I have been busy. Hopefully I'll have more to post this month, though, especially since...

ZOMG, GUESS WHO JUST GOT A TABLET

Yes, me. After six years of doodling and painting exclusively with a mouse, I finally invested in an A5 Graphire2 Wacom tablet, whom I've dubbed "Fred". He arrived by post yesterday, and I have been glued to him ever since.

And voila, my first finished piece with it is a tribute to one of my favourite scenes from Final Fantasy 6, since I'm just a great big Celes fangirl at heart.

Anyway, spoilerspoilerspoilerstopreadingandgopla yfinalfantasy6, this is from the part of the game where Celes wakes up on an island with Cid in the World of Ruin, having spent the past year in a coma post-cataclysm. At this point different things happen depending on whether or not Cid dies, but if he does she makes her way to the cliffs, eventually deciding to make a "leap of faith" rather than continue living in such a bleak world.

Since it's one of my favourite scenes in the game, hopefully I did it a little bit of justice. She probably looks a bit too old here, but I think I'd be a bit haggard after all of that, too. >.> Some bits of the painting are scrappy but I'm getting to the point where I'd rather headbutt cement than do any more to it, even though I've only been working on it for about six hours. Oh well.

Much love for Fred. <3

Painted from scratch in Photoshop CS with a tablet.

This was a very sad and shocking scene the first time I played this game on my original SNES version. And, being honest, it still is.

This is the only game I know of where one of the main characters attempts to commit suicide. I know there are plenty of characters who sacrifice themselves to save others and give the rest of the heroes a chance to continue and win against the villain, but that's not what happens here. Celes has lost everything. All her friends are gone. Cid, her only family, dies from sickness he got while caring for her, but she fails to do. She failed to stop Kefka from destroying the world she sought to protect. There is literally nothing left for her in her mind. But still...climbing a mountain and throwing herself off a cliff to the ocean below while she cries...it's just...you feel SO bad and sad with her...yet you can hardly believe what you're seeing, which you don't even realize is what is going on until she actually does it.

This scene still blows my mind today. I've never seen any game ever have its characters do this except this one. And your picture conveys the feelings of the moment fully. Celes just sits there on the edge, seeing the nothingness all around her, expression one of grief and slowly dying painfully on the inside. Very emotional work. Exceptionally well done.

very beautiful other than the face, but it is nice to see an artists take on it.

I cried so hard at this scene!! Lucky, Cid lived in my game the second time I played it.

Thank you! This painting's actually kind of old now, I was considering redoing it. Glad it's still appealing, though. Thanks for the comment!

Oh, awesome! I just went and checked it out(and the rest of your gallery) and I was very impressed. I've done some pixel art in the past, but nothing near so detailed. Thanks for the comment and fav!

I'm really enthusiastic about the sky in this piece - the reflection of the sunset in the water is a great representation of the mood of the scene and the design of the WoR. The face seems too indelicate to be Celes to me, but were it a real scene and Celes a real girl, I think it would be just perfect.

Of course, I'm pissed off that you haven't submitted it to CoN yet.

Yeah, I also prefer how the background turned out compared to Celes herself. Indelicate is the right word...I just can't quite seem to capture Celes how I want her. Oh well, I'll just have to keep trying.

And CoN, eh? I had almost forgotten, but that's a good idea. I'll get around to it ASAP!

Mmmmmm.... :+heart: Definately recognized the subject from the thumbnail without looking at the name I really like her defeated expression and ragged looking hair, it fits the scene quite well.

oh nice use of hard non transparent brushes

Welcome to the world of Tablets...

heres a tip, use large transparent brushes, with the pressure transparency control (and size control) and you can get some good shading effects with that especially when doing hair and grass (and fur) and as you want to put more detail, make the brush even smaller, but then decrease the transparency as you go... d

I'm not really a big fan of low opacity brushes unless I'm specifically going for a watercolour look, I prefer adjusting the flow and colour dropping a lot instead. Thanks for the tip, though.
