Description This took a while, so all comments are SUPER appreciated

Samantha Greene was born to an upper middle class professional couple in Latvia, when she was five her parents divorced and she went to live with her father who worked as a businessman in Florida. Some years later her father remarried and they moved in with her stepmother and stepsister Stacey, neither of which she was ever that close to. She never  really got over the shock of the move and growing up she was a precocious but quite distant child who often looked quite disdainfully down on those around her. Her father was very busy and while he wasn't around the house much he put a lot of pressure on her to succeed in life, constantly reminding her how lucky she was to have both her looks and her brains and to waste neither.

She performed well academically and got a scholarship to study business and economics at college. She hoped college would be different, that she’d be surrounded by social and intellectual elites but was quickly disappointed, for the most part she found her classmate as dumb, ill-mannered and badly dressed as those at school, they just had richer parents. She also found it annoying that despite her aptitude for the subject it was almost entirely her looks that got her attention from students (and professors) alike. There was a silver lining though, the elite tuition fees didn't pay themselves, but with her slender build, long blonde hair and meticulous appearance she found a fairly reliable source of income from modelling.

She enjoyed modelling, she was attracted to the performance of it. The exaggeration of emotion, the deceit of giving a smouldering look to the camera when all she was really thinking about was her payment. It started off as a hobby, then a summer job, but the more successful she became and the more money that was on the table, by her third year of college she was skipping finals to do photoshoots; and while she still thought of herself as the smartest girl in her class, she was barely passing and would have been kicked out many times over if not for some deft lies on her part.

Whether it was the rich kids at college or the richer old men at fashion parties, Samantha developed pretty expensive habits and soon needed money for more than just college fees. Lucky for her those same rich men at fashion parties were very careless with their credit cards. While lately her academic motivation has sharply dropped, she found it rekindled using her business knowledge to plan out various scams. Using her natural charm and warm smile to reel her victims in, then the cold precision of her intellect to defraud them in one of a dozen ways, it felt to Samntha like she’d finally found her dream job. Unfortunately that dream wasn't to last forever.

No matter how vivacious a display she could put on, and no matter how well calculated her plans were, stealing from the rich was always going to be dangerous and two years into her career as a conwoman, with dozens of marks swindled and several hundred thousand dollars stolen, Samantha got caught. Her target had been an ex judge. A curmudgeonous man who made sure that the young, pretty, first time offender with a good background didnt get off with the slap on the wrist she thought she would. No, the crime of making him look stupid could only be punished with a custodial sentence - 20 months in state prison - were the words Samantha heard as she was taken from the court room to swap her designer suit for a button down orange jumpsuit.

Samantha’s cellmate in prison was Kate, an ex-mercenary serving 15 years for gun running. The two complemented each other well. Kate had the respect of most other inmates through her strength and Samantha through her cunning. Together the year Samantha had to serve went by almost without incident. It still wasn't easy though and in prison Samantha’s narcissism and disregard for others only grew, that was just what it took to survive. Rather than “reform” her it just gave her a bigger appetite for money, for comfort, for control over others and revenge on slimeballs like the judge who thought they could push her around.

During her final months in prison Kate confided in her about a plan to break out. It would involve Kate and two other girls, Lucy (a bank robber serving seven years) and Alexa (a burglar serving five years). The plan was to break out and flee to Columbia where Kate had contacts. However they needed someone on the outside to help with the plan and prepare forged documents for them to cross the border. Samantha was a natural fit and she couldn't say no. Partly because she’d been scared of what came next after she got released. Partly because she quite liked Kate and didn't think her pretty face deserved to rot in prison till she was nearly fifty.

The plan went smoothly and the four ex cons started new lives in Columbia. They worked as outlaws/mercenaries for hire; assassinating rival weapons dealers and stealing drug shipments. Kate and Lucy did most of the heavy lifting with Alexa focussing on infiltration. Samantha was never in the line of fire, her role in the group was simply to launder the money they stole. However the richer they got the less willing to put themselves at risk they became and after several lucrative years they split the money and went their separate ways. Samantha wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to Kate yet and so travelled with her to Haiti.

While they’d never formally been a couple Samantha and Kate’s relationship had grown to be fairly intimate. Samantha assumed they were going to the Caribbean almost as a romantic getaway to spend some quiet time together, after a high octane last few years in prison and on the run. She was rather disappointed to learn the trip to Haiti was simply another job (this time providing security for a group smuggling historical artefacts). The bigger surprise was when she was awoken one mourning to a gun muzzle and the familiar click of handcuffs as she and Kate were dragged out their apartment and down to the police station on suspicion of murdering a customs officer.

She knew Kate had done it, she’d killed people multiple times, in her line of work it came with the territory. Although for once Samantha was telling the truth when she told the police she had nothing to do with it. She’d been in the apartment the whole day. Still, she was charged as an accessory and locked up in the close security wing of the women's prison, confined to a dingy cell for 23 hours a day while the investigation proceeded. While the evidence against her was slight it didn't take long to uncover the trail of criminal behaviour the two had been linked to in south america. Soon she wasn’t just facing the accessory to murder charge but an additional 20 charges ranging from drug trafficking to kidnapping. To make it worse, authorities in the US had been made aware of the situation and were seeking to extradite her for her role in laundering money for the Colombian gangs they’d worked for.

After about a year in prison she had a meeting with a DEA agent who’d travelled over from the US. He offered her a deal. Give up Kate and he’d make the charges against her in Haiti go away. She’d still be facing charges in the US but a decade or so in a cushy American prison was better than languishing here for the rest of her life. She barely even hesitated, the past year had almost broken her and as ashamed to admit it as she was, she’d probably have given up her closest friend for a fresh set of bedsheets, let alone a chance of freedom.

Despite being at near breaking point she was still coy enough to make sure that the prison she was sent to was “the” cushiest one around. So after signing some paperwork and snitching on everyone she knew for good measure, she was loaded onto a plane in shackles and flown back to the US to serve a twelve year sentence at a federal minimum security prison camp. From the hell she’d been in it was almost like being back at college. Most of the inmates were older white collar criminals or spoiled rich girls, it didn't take long for Samantha to establish herself at the top of the social hierarchy. She  even earned a very enviable position as a trustee in the warden's office. The only problem was she had absolutely no intention of spending the next twelve years in a barred cell and subject to pat downs, but she had a plan. Snitching had worked so well for her in Haiti, why not here too. Her victim was her cellmate, an older woman accused of securities fraud who snored loudly in her sleep. Samantha gave the warden her confession just to get rid of her; and from then on they had a deal. Samantha would extract confessions from her cellmates and the DA would use the evidence to get a conviction. Every case they closed Samantha would get a chunk of time off her own sentence. The DA perhaps underestimated her predatory instincts and after two years Samantha had turned in a dozen fraudsters/murders/even a suspected terrorist. One woman was only her cellmate for a few hours but Samantha got enough information out of her to send her down for eight years. All the subterfuge meant she’d cut the twelve years down to the hard minimum of three.

Her last cellmate was different, Alyssa Valenti, a woman in her mid twenties tied to organised crime. By the time Samantha finally got anything good out of her, her parole hearing was almost up. She held back what she knew about Alyssa, she gave the DA a little so that there was no doubt her parole would go through, but not enough to make anything serious stick. There was simply no further benefit to saying more and besides, over a year of trying to break her down she’d grown a begrudging respect for Alyssa and they’d shared some close moments.

After her release from prison she recovered some money she’d hidden in untrackable accounts during her days as an outlaw. She married an older aristocrat who owned a prestigious auction house. When her husband died in a freak, completely unsuspicious, skiing accident she inherited his wealth and business. It didn't come close to the thrill of conning people, but making yuppies overpay for antiques went some way to satisfying her need to manipulate and get one over on people. She went to great lengths to bury all traces of her criminal past and make herself undiscoverable to all who knew her before. Despite this she still has sleepless nights wondering what became of her previous associates, Kate especially.

The trauma and guilt she associates with prison is set deep in her, she knows she’s been party to some pretty terrible things and has thrown everyone she came into contact with under the bus to avoid punishment for her crimes. Her late husband once gifted her a set of jewelled silver bracelets but she threw them away as the sensation of cold metal on her wrists reminded her of the years she wore shackles daily. Everything orange or striped had to be tossed out her wardrobe and burned. Last winter she removed the chandelier in the ballroom because when it rustled it reminded her of the noise her chains made during the prison transfer. Despite taking every precaution to avoid running afoul of her past deeds, she still has waking nightmares about being arrested for some legal corner she's cut.
