Description Emboldened by 's sudden unexpected posting of digital works, and ashamed of not having posted any art today, I'm upping this.

Its different from the rest of my gallery, was produced as a bit of an experiment in August 07, and was brought about by a sudden change to my situation...

In the month prior, my fiance and I had been engaged for a little over half a year. We were planning to get married in the summer of 2008, and were soon hoping to move into a bigger house, a safer street for our cat, and maybe room for some kids. Having lived in London's Zone 2 for almost 3 years, we'd long been advocates of bicyles, and neither of us had owned a car all the time we'd been together. We'd frequently rip into people who insisted on driving places, because, well, bikes are just cheaper, faster, better, and, erm, shiny.

Suddenly (and believe me, that word doesn't nearly sum it up) we're pregnant. Amazing! We're ecstatic! But we don't live in an area where we'd want to raise a child.

So, all the plans shift around, we inform the immediate family, bring the wedding forwards, push through the house move, and buy a car (even as particularly dedicated exponents of pedal power, I can't see us doing the hospital run with her on the crossbar).

Come the middle of August, we realise that in the rush to nail everything down, we've done almost all of the above and its still only the immediate family that know!

So, out comes photoshop, I hit the web for reference (mostly Kubrick figurines from The Nightmare before Christmas), and a day later, we've got a card to send to everyone else.

This was my first (and only) vector piece, and yes, in retrospect, Illustrator would have been a much better way of doing it. I stopped counting at 122 individual shape layers...

Still here it is. Proof that I can lend my hand to other approaches, and reason enough to prove that its better to spend 20 minutes thinking about how to complete a piece before wading in with a tool you really don't know...

Enjoy

Hmmm... maybe I should have made this a journal entry

Hmmm...

1: Video upload is not currently supported, or is by invitation only
2: That wasn't supposed to be a rabbit.
3: Or a boat.

All of which rather suggests I won't be posting my animation pieces any time soon
Well, they were kind of legacy anyway. I've not touched them in over 10 years.

It's good that you liked the card though. It seems to keep popping up every time we visit anyone's house, so it's going to be hard to get away from.

I'm really glad you like it Patrick. I was fresh from doing this when I first came across your vector work. It blew me away then, and still inspires me today.

Somehow I'd failed to add it as a favourite, so I've just sorted that out anyway

No problem friend.
I hope you manage to clear the time to get a new piece out soon.
Your work shows such development, and I'm always looking forward to seeing where you take it next

You have to respect a guy that chooses his means of transportation by it's level of shininess!

I do understand all too well that even good changes can completely alter the course of your life. They can hit you like a tidal-wave leaving you dazed and wondering how it all happened so fast.

Cheers Micah,

It was certainly life changing, but we've been lucky that our enthusiasm and love for each other have buoyed us along on top of that wave. You can see for miles from up here, and it all looks good

I'll have to look around and see if I can't find a shiny canoe
