I see Minthe as a hussy who thought she would be a better queen for Hades and more his type of woman *winkwink*. Hades never would give her any acknowledgment but she kept being a pest and insulting Persephone so the REAL queen of the underworld turned her into the plant to show her and everyone else that she's nice most of the time, but she is still a queen so DON'T DISS HER!
Minthe is more evil in my WIP Greek Myth fanfics, but still gets punished.
I see Leuce as Hades' first true friend and while they never really got romantic, they were still very close.

In the story I read, Hades befriended Minthe, and took her to the Upperworld, something she always wanted to see. I guess the poor nymph mistook kindness for love and wound up suffering for it.

Huh. I wasn't aware there was an interpretation of Minthe being a nice character. But that's the Greek Myth's for you, nearly all of the characters can be interpreted as good or rotten.

The stories in my textbooks all state this: She was in love with him, but he didn't feel the same way, and she was heartbroken when he married Persephone, and was busted bitching about it by Persephone and they got into a fight ending with Minthe's death, Persephone, ashamed of what she had done, turned her remains into a plant and named it in her honour.

3-sad but beautiful.
4-Creepy awesome. Easy to see them with goddess of witchcraft.

Interesting that even the god of death could have some big fans. I'm in love with Leuce now, she sounded like a beautiful, kind lady who loved Hades as willingly as he loved her. I think Persephone was a love that had to take a while to fully develop, but I think they probably got some love in there. But Minthe sounds like she's a spunky lady for sure.

I think Minthe actually set out to seduce Hades after seeing his golden chariot but then Persephone intervened and changed her to mint. I really love the representations here, especially the Lampad!

I love your nymphs! They are all so beautiful and embody perfectly the river or the element they are realted to. I didn't know the rivers of the Underworld have nymphs and so I'm very happy to learn new things about mythologies since I absolutely love them. ^-^

I always see Hades as the type of man who genuinely respects women (human or otherwise) but his only experience with one is with Leuce (I always thought of her as his first) and really uncomfortable of the persistence of Minthe.

Goodness, I love all of your Greek/Roman mythology art! Since I was a kid i've been fascinated with mythology, primarily Greek/Roman, Egyptian and Nordic, and it's so much fun to see all of your illustrations! I was thrilled to read the Percy Jackson/Kane series(s) because the author uses actual, factual mythology in his books.

I have never heard about the story of Minthe, so I looked it up (wiki is your friend! ): according to the myth, Minthe was a naiad who saw Hades' golden chariot and was dazzled by it ("Oooh, I like your shiny ride!") and wanted to seduce him, but Persephone saw this, intervened ("No other woman goes hitting on my man!" ) and changed the naiad into the plant mint. So Hades didn't do anything wrong, it was just a girl who liked Hades' car and Persephone being possesive of her husband
But Hades is pretty possesive of his wife as well (and I'm not talking about their original story). Do you know the myth about Theseus, the hero who slay the minotaur? Later on in his life, he and his friend Peirithoos got the idea (after a lot of wine) to marry a daughter of Zeus. Theseus picked Helen (who was 12 around then!) and kidnapped her to Athene (he gave her back later, but Sparta wasn't happy about the whole thing), and since Peirithoos couldn't get a prettier wife than Helen in the normal world, they decided to get Persephone since she was the most beautiful wife of the UNDERworld. Of course, Hades already knew that they were coming and offered them a seat to rest. However, the seats were cursed to make the men forget everything they once knew, and everyone in the normal world would forget them. The two men sat in those seats for god knows who long until Heracles freed Theseus. Peirithoos was never freed because he had wished to marry a woman who was already married.
In short: don't try to whoo Persephone, because Hades is going to make you regret it. Badly.
By the way, do you know the story about (the river) Arethusa? The river is now part of the river Alpheus, the biggest river in Greece, but since it runs a few kilometers underground people made a story about how it got in the underworld. The story about that river and the river Alpheus is often told together with the story of Persephone and Hades. Since you like that couple so much, I thought you might have heard of it.

And you know that I think is great? That you like to draw all those mythologic stories! When I found you I couldn't believe me eyes because you have drawn so many of my favorite stories: not only very known ones like Hades and Persephone (who's story I also like very much, with the symbolism of them and all ), but also the unknown ones about Eris, Psyche and the Graces. I often squeed behind my computer. haha.
And it's great that you know Arethusa! When I read about it I liked how it flowed (haha) together with the love story of Hades and Persephone, since both Arethusa and Persephone didn't want to marry the man that loved her so much. The story isn't as famous here, but I'm glad that it's known where you live since I like it so much
And it would be amazing if you would draw the story about Hades, Persephone and Theseus! I was reminded of it because Persephone was so possesive of her husband with Minthe, and I suddenly remembered that Hades was that also to his wife. I like how these two have grown to love each other so much after they had such a rough and not very happy start (kidnapping her to the underworld isn't really the best way to woo a girl Hades ). But since they always stayed together and Hades never strayed to other woman (unlike his brothers), they seem like a very solid and stable couple!
But my personal greek mythology OTP is Eros and Psyche. I totally love how the playfull and carefree son of Ares and Aphrodite suddenly fell in love with a mortal girl and suddenly understood how powerfull and awful his own powers were. And that even when Eros left her and Aphrodite punished her, Psyche didn't give up and tried to find Eros (she even went to the underworld, and that takes a lot of guts and courage). They fell in love with how the other looked, but when they were torn apart they grew (Eros finally understood the strenght of his powers and became more mature; Psyche showed that she had a lot more than only beauty by finishing all the tasks that Aphrodite gave her). And in the end, they get together again and love each other forever!
- Sorry for the rant, but I have no one to talk about them since very little people have knowledge of the greek mythology, and even less people know about Eros (or Cupid) and his love. People always forget Psyche and that makes me sad
