The people that need him more, the sinners of the world that need redemption, the lost and scared.

I completely agree!
The Bible has all sorts of strange quotes. Deuteronomy says a rebellious son should be stoned to death. It also says a woman who has sex before she is married should be murdered.
And I thought that killing someone was supposed to be a mortal sin? I guess there are exceptions (NOT).
The Bible was edited. It was written by MEN, especially Leviticus, because there is no proof that God showed himself to those writers, unlike what is said in the books like the aposcles. I highly doubt God would want that.
So how can we pick and choose what is a sin and what isn't?

wuhoooah buddy, better find some references there before you start going nuts on the Bible. I'm not familiar with the bit about a woman who has sex before she is married being murdered...d

Deuteronomy 22:13-21, states that if there is no proof that a woman is a virgin then she should be taken out and stoned.
"20: But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:
21: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you"
I find this pretty disgusting, since a man doesn't have to be a virgin before marriage but the woman is a "whore".

Context, context, context. The dude doing the accusing in verses 13-21 is one of two things: an honestly and understandably outraged man who just got married and found out his wife has already been sexually active and never told him, or a lying dirtbag.
In the first case, think about this guy's position - he's ALREADY married, and he's just finding out that his wife is not a virgin. That kinda sucks. Extremely dishonest on the wife's part. She let him swear a lifelong vow that she hasn't upheld herself.
But in the second case, he's just a pathetic manchild who doesn't deserve to have a wife - he has brought a bad name on a virgin of Israel. I feel sorry for the woman he's married to.
Now on the point of the man's virginity... simple biology. "Virginity" doesn't exist for men. There is no physical mark of whether or not a man has been with a woman. For a man, virginity is a state of mind, specifically that of a man who has never been intimate with a woman, thus causing her to no longer be a virgin.
That said, I think there are plenty of men who are whores. They deserve the lowest pit of hell in my opinion, as they aren't the ones who become pregnant and have to either kill or raise a child when they have casual sex. I've had several people very close to me ruin lives by trying to have a good time without considering or fearing the consequences. And I always place the blame chiefly on the man. It's his decision.
Not that I think they can't be forgiven for doing something that heinous. Just saying, it's horrible and I understand your disgust... and I hope you understand mine.

I understand you fine. I just don't see why the Bible even would mention that this act is worthy of death. I don't think anything we do is worthy of death because that's not us to judge. I just personally believe that the Bible is very judgmental, and people don't know how to interpret it. It's hard not to see words like this and think "that's terrible and not Christ-like at all", but people still think these words are literal. It's terribly annoying.

Well, keep in mind, this is the law code that was delivered to the Jews by God Himself. It's not us judging who should die and who shouldn't. If you believe God exists, and you believe that laws should be obeyed, how much more seriously should we treat it if it's God telling us those laws?
And if the book of Deuteronomy isn't literal, how do you know books like Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are literal?
I've got a whole mess of ideas about what it means to follow God's laws, and whether or not we should literally follow Mosaic law, but that's a whole 'nother wall-of-text, and I'll spare you the trouble. Suffice it to say, we have only one law that Jesus told us to follow... well, two:
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."
So basically... If you're following those two laws, you will invariably be upholding every law that is important to God. You can't go wrong with love.

I completely agree with you. Those two laws are the basis for everything, and I think that many of the problems we have today wouldn't be in existence if we just followed these two to a tee.

not to seem rude or inconsiderate but, in the bible when jesus talks about the unics, another translation for that word meant homosexual so when jesus talked about how it was fairly bad to be a unic, he was also talking about homosexuals

It is the person Jesus loves, yes, but the sin of homosexuality he hates. In the Bible, it is said to be the only unnatural sin. Read Romans Chapter 1, this is what God thinks of homosexuality.
Don't just assume that I hate homosexuals. I don't. I just hate what they do. Trading the natural for the unnatural. They do things that God never intended, therefore the act of homosexuality is sin and God hates ALL sin.

Meh, I just don't like it when somebody is completly and entirely sarcastic, and not in a humor sort of way...
I believe homosexuality is wrong, a sin of the flesh, and completly unnatural. Male/male, female/female was not what God intended and therefore it is a sin. God doesn't hate the person, just the sin.
If you are a homosexual, don't be offended. I'm not trying to belittle you. I won't be a jerk towards you, but that doesn't mean I condone your actions.

I don't believe God made them that way. Read Romans chapter 1 and you'll see God's opinion.
I believe that these people are shaped into homosexuals, not genetically that way. How I've seen it happen is this. A young boy either grows up without his father, or the father doesn't give a damn about him. He will cling to his mother, pick up her mannerisms, and become an effeminate child. If said effeminate boy goes to school, he gets made fun of. The other boys call him faggot, gay, homo, sissy, that sort of thing. After years of this, he might begin to wonder, am I really this way? Eventually, he believe that he was born that way, and other homosexuals will preach this over and over until it is ground into his mind that he was born homosexual. If they preach that he is normal, he will feel no guilt. No guild means no sin. No sin means no need for forgiveness, no forgiveness means eternity in hell.
This is not what God wants. Homosexuality is a sin, and sin is punishable by eternity in hell.

Magic-Jellyfish In reply to Captain-Christian [2009-03-16 21:10:09 +0000 UTC]
Yes, because I'm sure that is God's actual opinion. Anyone could have written that down themselves.
What you have just listed is a stereotype. Being effeminate does not equal gay. If someone is effeminate, that does not mean they are gay as well. Yes, the boy can turn out effeminate, but he is always gay. He doesn't just "turn gay" one day. I strongly suggest you read the book Crisis ([link] ). It tells stories of homosexuals growing up. They did not just randomly turn this way one day, not with all that they put up with. Homosexuality could not be a sin because it does not fall into any of the mortal or deadly sins. No one knows what God wants exactly either, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't want people like you spreading around hate like this just because you don't agree with something a group of people do and whatnot. God loves everyone, including homosexual people. He created them, just like how he created everyone else. I have seen good homosexual people. Why would they go to hell just for something as trivial as that? Loving another person that happens to be of the same sex? Love cannot be helped. The homosexual person could have tried to be straight, but he would have been unhappy, possibly leading that to kill himself. In that book, many of those stories have people saying how they had to pretend to be straight and it was an ordeal of unhappiness for them (some of them also talk about how they thought about killing themselves with their secret and/or what they had to put up with for something as trivial as their sexual orientation). God created them like that, otherwise they would not have to pretend to be something they are not.

Look, I know God loves them, I don't hate them. They are people just like me, but they are living in the wrong. God created man and woman for one purpose, and anything besides the norm, i.e. homosexuality, is sin. It wasn't what God intended, it is a choice.
I honestly don't care what you believe, you have that right as a human to believe whatever you wish. Just know this, I've known some homosexuals, and I don't treat them any different than I treat my family or friends. I don't hate them, I just hate what they do. I will not physically, mentally, or verbally abuse them, that is not my right nor is it anyone's. God did not create homosexuals, but he did create humans with free will. Because of that, anything that is substandard, i.e. stealing, murder, lying, homosexuality, is punishable by eternal damnation. All humans deserve this fate, be they homosexual, heterosexual, or whatever. I believe homosexuality is wrong.
You may believe what you will. I don't care.

No problem. I don't beleive that it is my right to be a jerk. I don't have to like or accept what you do, but I'm not going to be mean about it. That would defeat the purpose of being Christ-like. It would put me in the wrong. Anyway... Ugh... Sorry, I've got tonsillitis and I ache like crazy today... Being sick sucks...

Went to the doctor this morning. They drew blood, and did a thraot swab, and said that my sickness is viral and not strep throat. So I guess I gotta let it run its course... I've pretty much lost my voice, so that's no fun. Heck, at least I don't have to use my voice on DA! lol!
Thank you for caring. I've been going through some crap lately, and haven't found many people who care.
