With this photograph, you sum up so perfectly why I hate those that bemoan duller skies when shooting aviation. It can make shooting more difficult, but the moodier skies also breath atmosphere into a photograph. This image would not feel quite as dramatic as it does, if it were in perfect sunlit skies. Great image indeed!

I am with you on this. To many, their ideal is to create a pretty portrait of their subject framed by a clear, blue sky. While there is nothing wrong with this, I think most are missing an important point; that the background canΒ contribute positively to the overall impact of the final image rather than simply framing it.
It was a slow, gradual road for me to travel to reach this point. I'm sure that, with time, some of them will also come to the same conclusion.
