I also am a huge fan of Chara actually being good!
Saw a video on YouTube, two parts to it that supports the view.
Chara isn't bad, we, the player are, poor Chara is just a scapegoat.
We can teach them to be good, or bad, it's all up to us, they have no control over us.
Chara will watch us kill, or befriend her friends, and family.
She's not bad, just a poor thing, used as a scapegoat.

I actually love the narrator theory as well. It's beautiful, and since there's evidence (when you go to reset a pacifist route) that Chara was with Frisk the entire time no matter the route, I like to think that even though Chara was hinted to not be completely good, that they weren't completely bad either. I think of a child who suffered a lot of pain, and going through the pacifist route shows Chara that there is some good left in the world and allows a chance for them and Flowey to reconcile when everyone leaves the underground. We don't know if they ever will, but since they are both left behind, there is that possibility, and that's a lot less depressing than thinking of a child who is nothing but pure evil and nothing else, to be honest
