The colored version of Ichigo and NutMeg.Fanart Misc. because both figures are fanart and different categories. Ichigo is from the anime Bleach, NutMeg is the original character of . This is officially my contest entry for her contest.
Time: about 4 hours total
Materials: Pencils: HB, 5B, regular colored and watercolor, plastic eraser and brush
Size: 18X12"
Personal photo used for pose reference.
I know the ears on the doggie are all weird. That's because I couldn't find a reference to use and I have no idea how to draw doggie ears without a reference.
They look cropped, or something. 
I might be able to fix them, but colored pencil is a real b@#&$ to erase.And I just now noticed that the toes are all wrong on the left foot. So here's my story: Ichigo has a really bad blister between his big toe and index toe, and so he had to move the strap over to the next set of toes.

I try to find the time, but it is hard with school and all. So I end up with a work about every one or two months. Photography is so much quicker

I did sort of cheat by using a photo as reference. So the emotion is actually in the moment captured. When Meghan started her contest I knew I wanted to use that photo as the starting point.

It is a bit out of character for him, isn't it? I toyed with the idea of making him annoyed with NutMeg, but decided it would be more fun to make him happy.

I need to practice some more with shading with pencils. I'm not really used to it, and it's not as easy as with the pastels. I'm happy with the skin tones, though. As I told Aubrey, I wasn't sure if they were right when I was doing them because I had about 300 watts of incandescent light going last night, and everything looked a bit yellow. But it's fine in regular light. 
I swear I'm going to look at every dog picture I can find to find that angle, dammit!

I'm the opposite. The only media I'm comfortable with is colored pencils. I've used pastels but I didn't really do any shading with them. I LOVE working with charcoal, but it's always so messy and I don't have any fixative.
I would love to see that picture
I hardly ever use refs when drawing dogs but then again my poses are pretty limited. Maybe I should put my "How To Draw Animals" and "How to Draw Human Anatomy" books to good use

I'd really like to start using some stock in my drawings for poses and such. But first I've got a work in my head which demands that I do it. 
Actually, you should be fixing your graphite works as well. They'll fade over time, although not as severely as charcoal.

Actually, I don't have any outlining pens around. I can get some, though, I think, at the bookstore. I might add a background later. It was about 4 am when I finished and I just wanted to get it posted. Maybe I'll be lazy and layer a picture underneath. Run it through the cutout filter or something

I wasn't quite sure how it would turn out, because the room was so flooded in yellow light that the skin looked really yellow to me. But it seems to be ok. I'll know for sure in the morning.
