Jude and Yrkki stared at Prof. Steele as he slowly and deliberately made his way back to the cage.

"Hmph, so you managed to get the gag off. Great, now I'll get to listen to your incessant whining all over again." Steele muttered, nonchalantly opening the cage door. Without warning, he grabbed the back of Jude's shirt collar and yanked it, hard.

"Wai-no, get off me!" Jude choked, twisting as he fought being pulled away from Yrkki. The professor didn't care, however, merely adjusting his grip to be tight around his student's shoulders as he pulled.

Bound as he was, Yrkki couldn't do anything more than yell at Steele as he continued to drag Jude kicking and screaming out of the cage and dragging him along the forest floor. Acting on instinct at that point, Jude lunged forward, snapping his teeth at the man's fingers.

Prof. Steele sputtered, yanking his hand back. "Did you- did seriously just try to..?" He turned and gave Yrkki a murderous look. "YOU! You better hope that feral attitude of yours isn't contagious."

"Let us go!" Jude shouted again, continuing his thrashing. He kicked and stomped at the man's legs, but his captor remained unbothered.

"Dammit Jude...maybe you did catch something from it. I knew it was a bad idea to keep the two of you confined so closely but it's not like you left me much choice." Steele muttered, fighting to keep his student under control.

"Quit calling him an 'it' you sociopath, what the hell have you been doing to hi-mmph!"

Jude's rants were cut off as Steele took the gag hanging loosely from his neck and repositioned it once again to cover his mouth. From his position in the cage, Yrkki continued to shout.

"R̴e̸d̵!̷ ! Jude!"

Steele froze, staring at his student incredulously. "You taught it your name? I leave you two for fifteen minutes and you're already imprinting on each other?! Jesus Christ..." he finished, bitterly. "That's...not ideal. But I can work with this," he muttered.

He abandoned Jude on the forest floor, reaching into the cage once again to grab Yrkki by the collar of his tunic.

"G̶o̵ ̷t̴o̵ ̵h̶e̷l̵l̸" Yrkki spat.

"Damned thing, already turning my assistant against me." Steele retorted. He dug around his satchel with his other hand and pulled out a hinged, circular band of thick metal. Yrkki froze. "Don't worry, it isn't iron." he sneered, relishing in the way the boy's eyes widened. "But believe me, if the two of you don't start cooperating you're going to wish it was."

"N̶o̷,̴ ̴d̵o̷n̵'̷t̴!̶ ̵G̴e̴t̵ ̵aw̶ay̶ fr̷o̴m̸ ̸m̶e!̷ ̷ " Yrkki began screaming as Steele wrestled the metal collar onto him.

Jude, meanwhile, continued to writhe in his bonds. From his position, he could see Yrkki struggling with his professor, but with the latter's back blocking most of his sight. He could only see Yrkki again when Steele threw him back to the opposite end of the cage, slamming the door before walking back to loom over his student.

"Dealing with the two of you has already taken years off my lifespan, I know it," Steele grumbled. "I don't suppose you'll suddenly start behaving better if I say please?"

Jude didn't make any attempt to say anything, instead, he just narrowed his eyes at his professor.

Steele sighed. "Very well, let's see if we can't try another form of motivation," he said nonchalantly, reaching into his coat pocket and pulling out a small black remote with a single button. It looked like a garage door opener.

"Seeing as your delusional sense of naivety and protectiveness has already imprinted on this thing, I'm sure you wouldn't like it if any harm were to come to him," Steele muttered. He grabbed Jude by the back of his collar and dragged him upward until the boy was standing, eliciting a muffled grunt.

"Don't you dare look away, I want you to see exactly what's going to happen if either of you decides to misbehave," Steele growled, twisting the button like a dial before pressing down on it with his thumb.

Out of Yrkki's mouth came a scream unlike anything Jude had ever heard, as the pale boy began jerking violently against the chains that held him. His eyes rolled back into their sockets as unholy sounds continued to pour out of his mouth, nearly covering the crackling sound of an electrical current coming from the collar. The skin underneath it quickly began to turn red...

"Mnghh, nngh!"

Steele kept holding down the button even after Jude started shouting muffled curses at him, begging unintelligibly from behind his gag. Tears leaked out of Jude's eyes and he sobbed.

The ordeal lasted for less than half a minute, but by the time Steele finally released his grasp on the remote control Yrkki could do nothing else but collapse on the floor of the cage, panting.

"I'm sure you can guess where this is going," Steele said, grimly. "I modified it myself to be stronger than most, 500 milliamperes. With that current, one hundred volts shoudl be enough for a lethal dose. Then again, that's if we're talking about an average, adult male. Even I'm not sure how many volts would be enough to kill it," He hovered his thumb over the dial. "Would you like to find out with me?"

Jude screamed, shaking his head and pleading with his eyes. This was torture. This was undoubtedly torture, couldn't Steele see that?

"Then here is what's going to happen. I'm going to loosen your binds. No point in keeping my research assistant completely useless, I still need some help with my work." Steele sighed, already reaching around Jude's head to pick at the knot keeping his gag in place. "We're going to work on an honor system. You do as I say, and its blood won't be on your hands."

The gag fell away, and while Jude immediately wanted to protest he was interrupted by a soft whine. Glancing back at the cage, he could see Yrkki's chest heaving as he fought to catch his breath. He looked awful. His skin, which was already so pale, now looked nearly translucent. The only color that remained was the dark hollowness around his eyes and the angry, inflamed skin of his neck.

"Are we clear, Jude?"

Prof. Steele stared down at him with an uncaring expression, and in his gut he realized there were no words that could convince the man to let the two of them go.

"...Fine, yeah. We're clear." Jude grumbled, his eyes downcast. He returned his gaze to Yrkki, who was looking up at him with wide, confused eyes.

"W̴h̴a̵t̴'̸s̸ ̶g̷o̵i̶n̴g̴ ̷o̶n̵?̷"̴" Yrkki croaked. "Jude?"

"Just...stay. It'll be okay." the redhead answered, blinking back the tears that threatened to overflow.

"Excellent. Now come on, it's late and I can't have my only assistant being slow due to exhaustion. Now that you've unofficially joined me in this project, I'll have you start helping me first thing in the morning."

Steele planted the palm of his hand on Jude's back and shoved, causing the boy to stumble forward. As he was forced along he twisted his neck back one more time to look at Yrkki, and the two shared a parting glance.

"You'll be tethered to the bed of course, can't have you doing anything foolish." Steele prattled on about his demented research, but Jude didn't care to listen.

In that moment where he and Yrkki locked eyes, without words, they both conveyed the same message to each other.

"I'm getting you out of here."
