These were experimental methods so if you ever try this way I am sure it can be improved. so...

miners hat is green upholstery foam attached to a hat with the bill removed. It was carved into the basic shape of the head. The red light is an LED flare alert (we bought it off amazon) it is held on via Velcro for easy removal to change batteries. A plastic bowl with paper glued to it is attached via Velcro in front of the light. This serves to hold the light in, block the light from shining everywhere in the head and off the face(exposing it), and the paper helps disperse the light so it isn't just 3 points of light. The paper is painted red because with flash pictures it reflects the white so now it at least reflects red. Black craft foam is sealing anywhere the light still leaks through.

The black hole face is a coat hanger bent into a circle with a pair of black tights stretched over. Sew to hanger then cut excess off. This will determine the measurement for the fabric around the face.
