Hello again! This time I bring you a new illustration about aeroplanes.

The illustration is framed within the context of the Spanish Civil War and represents a dogfight between a messerschmitt bf 109 Emil-1 of the Condor Legion and a Polikarpov I-16 of the republican side at the end of the summer of 1938 in the coasts of Catalonia.

The Spanish Civil War was a testing ground for many European regimes, where they experimented with new warfare techniques and new war materials devised during the 1920s and 1930s. Nazi Germany sent the so-called Legion Condor, an expeditionary corps composed of pilots who were to serve as an auxiliary air force, but also to test the new German fighter planes, the Messerschmitt. The Soviets, for their part, did the same, sending material and men to serve the Republican cause. That is why we see many Polikarpov fighters flying the Republican flag in photographs.

In the illustration, the German plane belongs to pilot Hans Schmoller Haldy of the 3rd Squadron of the J/88th Fighter Group. The Republican plane belongs to the Spanish pilot José Salinas of the 4th fly squadron of the 21st group of the 11th fighter squadron.
