Description
Hello again! This time I bring you another drawing. This time I have made an illustration of a Mahdist warrior.
These Mahdists were a group of insurgents who, during the first years of British rule over Sudan, rebelled against colonial control and launched a jihad creating their own Islamic state that put in check both the British and other colonial powers in the area. Between 1881 and 1899 the Mahdists managed to control much of modern Sudan and repel British attacks, but failed in their expansionist aims, causing internal attrition which, together with a powerful British offensive, led to their defeat.
The warrior shown here wears a tunic called Jibba, adorned with bright colours. He is armed with a Kaskara sword and defended with a hippo-skin shield.
I hope you liked it and I'll see you in future publications.
