Description This is a concept I've been trying to nail down for a while. Luvrioc are creatures native to a world of spatial extremes: the earth is covered in immense forests/jungle, wide rock spires rise miles high, and the skies are dominated by enormous cumulus clouds and deadly windstorms. The concept is for a video game idea I've had for a while called Supercell, which in essence is the name of clouds that create tornadoes.

If I wasn't going to pursue a career in art, I would probably be a meteorologist. I'm just in love with the sky and everything in it--especially clouds. So this game idea would mainly show off their splendor (which would be darn hard to render [hee hee! Rhyme...]).

Most of the gameplay would be done from the cockpit of a mechrioc, or mechanized version of these creatures--whose organic fluidity and flexible wings allow them to deftly traverse the skies. I'm no good at drawing mechanical things, however, so I decided to just do the creature and not the machine. ^^'

All craziness therein and hereupon is (c) to me, as always. ;]

I've seen this thing fly around SCP-106's pocket dimension.

Behold.

This does seem like something that would live in a high-density atmosphere with lots of clouds. It might help if it was white or grey, so it could hide in the clouds. That's assuming it's an ambush predator of course.

Thanks! I actually haven't given much thought to the colors, so thanks for the tip; makes perfect sense. And yes, they're the type of creatures that use cloud cover to their advantage.

I wonder, how big do they get? If you take inspiration from say, Avatar, flying beasties in a high-density atmosphere can get quite large, with more air to support them, etc.

I have a person-size up there to reference, and this example is full grown. They get pretty big, and this planet's atmosphere is definitely denser than Earth--maybe even denser than Pandora, but not by much.

As serious as a college freshman can get. XP I hope to someday get into game design or conceptual for other media arts, and eventually--once my career and/or technology gets advanced enough, take a swing at directing or co-directing games. Aaaah...the dream.

Wow, really interesting design! I think this creature (and this video game) could really work. It makes me want to draw a "mechrioc" myself. It's very graceful and alien. Nice!

Art-Zealot In reply to Nemonus [2010-07-20 22:43:31 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't mind seeing your take--might be better than mine XP. Just keep in mind that the wings need to be able to fold into three different shapes: the full span like I have here, just the second layer (the edge of which is marked by the "teeth" at the top of the wing), and the mantis-like core layer outlined by the bolder white for reeeally fast flying.

Nemonus In reply to Art-Zealot [2010-07-22 01:22:09 +0000 UTC]

Mmmkay. I might need a less silhouetted reference to be sure that it looks like you want, though.

Art-Zealot In reply to Nemonus [2010-07-22 06:16:24 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, that may be a long time in coming. This was a spur-of-the-moment thing and I have other things that call for my attention. >< You could just do a sillouhette as well. *shrug* This technique of laying out blocks of black and white detailing is really handy for concepts.

In short, not really sure what I want to see on 'im. I'll figure it out eventually. -_- For now, use your imagination!
