Description The image above is a Stereoscopic Paintings - It will become three dimensional if you look at them just the right way - It is called FREE-VIEWING

What is FREE-VIEWING? It means you can see stereoscopic images in 3D without the use of glasses.

How does one FREE-VIEW?

Stare at the painting and then cross your eyes so you see three images. Focus on the middle one. Relax your eyes a bit - be patient - you will lock it in like a tractor beam. Once you get it the first time it will becomes much easier. Move your head side to side and the piece will actually turn toward you.

THIS CAN BE UNCOMFORTABLE FOR SOME - ATTEMPT AT OWN RISK

You can try the smaller image first as your eyes don't have to be crossed too much. If you get it, move on to the larger version - it's a little more difficult as your eyes will have to strain a bit more, but it's worth it.

If you enjoyed this, you can find more stereoscopic painting on my page.

... Have fun!

In addition to the "FREE-VIEW" paintings, I have included the original paintings that were intended to be viewed with stereoscopic glasses. If you enjoyed the effects from FREE-VIEWING, you will be blown away at the effects when glasses are used.

If you are curious to see the effects the way I intented them to be seen, you can
purchase a fantastic device called the LOREO Lite 3D Viewer for $1.70. They are made in Hong Kong and will ship anywhere in the world.

----

I dabbled with the concept of creating stereo paintings for several years before I created my first piece.

I had never heard of anyone attempting this. I thought I was the first. I did a google search and there was no mention of what I had planned. I later found out that Dali, before he died, had a passion for it... gotta love him!

But...

he didn't have access to the tools at my disposal - Tee Hee Hee

How do I do it???

I mounted a pair of mirrored goggles in front of my screen and looked through them as I work in Photoshop. The source images come from a pair of photos taken at the same time with two cameras.

The "Lincoln" piece was my first stereo idea long before I even attempted the feat. I wanted to see my favorite President in living color as if he was right there infront of me - the lap dance was my gift to the stoic icon. I didn't execute the idea until I mastered the skill.

My first actual attempt was the "Self Portrait". The effect... well, sucked. My second piece "Mirror Mask" was a different story. "The Soul" also turned out nice (make sure you move your head side to side on this one - watch the guitar).

I will be uploading new stereo picts over the next few weeks!

Cheers,

Daniel

this is so impresive, I have to admit that I have to use glasses (I can't cross my eyes) but when I use them I am just totally amazed. I love the pose and the use of color, also the fabric on the background, it looks so real!

This one, I believe, is my favourite of all of these. I love how I can keep looking deeper into the image and continue to see so much detail. The way these make me feel as if I am a part of the art is simply fantastic. And I second the book idea. Hell - you need a gallery with these things printed up wall-size. They would blow people away.

The restraint in size is 6 feet wide with glasses. I never thought to create one for FREE-VIEWING - I'd probably be sued for Optometrist bills.

Daniel

Aw, that's too bad. Six feet could still be very impressive. *laughs* There's always disclaimers?

That sounds simply amazing. I hope I have the chance someday to experience them in such a manner. You are definitely a pioneer in digital media.

These paintings still amaze me!
A book would be a really neat idea.

(I think you gave slagowski the impression that the glasses were $170.00)

Ah, but my dear old mother thinks that anything bought on the internet will a)not show up, or b)be infested with herpes.

Still, my eyes are young, so it's not that bad.

You should try lurking the people who give out DDs.

;D

(I only noticed because even a starving artist should be able to shell out 1.70)

Why spend an evening doing work when I can look at your work?

No comments yet? Weird.... anyway, that is absolutely amazing how you have done that.... I have never seen anyone do this in a painting either.....
I definately can see what you have done.... Its funny because it is hard to uncross your eyes if you do it long enough haha...
I also paint, but not at your level.. Great going on this..... Really like the pose as well...

Thanks for the note. They are not only difficult to do but twice the work - I have to essentially paint the same piece twice... and be dead-nuts on - no room for error. Did you check out Simulacrum? That one is near perfect and shows incredible depth.

For $170 you can order glasses and see the originals posted on my site with ease. The effects are 10 times better than that of FREE-VIEWING.

I wish I could get more eyeballs on this stuff - I was thinking about creating a book with my painting where the glasses are built right into the book - There are a few stereo photographers who have done this - the books are amazing to look at - a great coffee table piece.

This site will help me gage the viability - Comments here will be invaluable - I wish I could get some?

I know I am new though and realize it will take some time.

Cheers,

Daniel

I really would like to see that through those glasses... However, being a starving artist it might be hard to come by.... I really would like to see your work in a book for others to enjoy... I honestly don't know how well it would do, but I like it myself.....
I'm going to try to put some more pictures of some of my sculptures and paintings on here... I will eventually be painting some of the photographic pieces you see here.
