Description The driver has a last minute check of the motion as the prototype 4.6.0 King class No 6000 “King George V” waits the right away at Paddington with a down express for the West Country.

The year is 1938 so the engine carries the old Great Western livery and above the bufferbeam is mounted the bell presented to the locomotive after its successful visit to the USA some years previously where its performance for an engine of its size astounded American observers.

Painted for a client in acylics about 5 years ago but now I would use oils to heighten the contrasts and smoke effects.

You've done Charles Collett excellent justice with this painting. Absolutely beautuful.

My only thing that's a little off is that the year is 1938, pre WW2, yet the tender displays the Transitional Logo of Post 1945. I think pre war the tenders would of had the words 'GREAT WESTERN' written on the side. But, to hell with that! This painiting is gorgeous notheless.

Love your work.

Do you know Max Jacquiard?
He's a local artist specialized in train paintings.

If not google his name.

Cheers

Yeah, I looked him up-----most immpressive.

Thanks for your kind comment, coming from such a fine artist as yourself is praise indeed. Do you know the work of John Kinear, he painted birds beautifully and was a great friend to me.

And if I remember correctly, "King George V" got that bell from the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. I do agree with you about the oils.

Yes you're right about the bell and of course it still carries it to this day.

I see you like Art Deco as I do, in fact recently I nearly bought an Art Deco villa which was built in 1938 but it was too far gone for me to rescue.

Shame really, can't find many art deco buildings in good condition anymore.
