YU-GI-OH! Short Fanfiction One Shot!

Before Reading:
- My Avatar/Character "MJ" was a world traveler. This is a secret kept from most
- She is also a Half Mermaid, another secret kept from most. (This means she was born human, spends most of her time as human, but was cursed later in life to be a mermaid under certain circumstances)
- She and Atem are married
- Sora, from Kingdom Hearts, has rescued her on more than one occasion while she was in other worlds. They're very good friends.

MJ blushed as Atem pushed her hair behind her shoulder and checked her makeup for imperfections.

“Beautiful,” he said into her eyes. “You couldn’t be more perfect.”

“Yes she can-“ Mana interrupted, as she fixed MJ's top to evenly distribute the loose fabric. “There, now she's perfect.”

MJ smiled. She was used to be primped up by her husbands servants, that wasn’t unusual. What was unique about today was that she had been Queen for a year now and it was time to put her in the history books. Of course as Queen she had already made history and that wouldn’t be undone, but today, Seto was going to create her documents for the Royal Court's records. All of the details, including the private ones.

“Who is that?” MJ asked when she noticed a stranger setting up in front of the throne. Atem held her hand and stood by her close as they spoke.

“That’s the artist who's going to paint you.” He said. When MJ raised her eye brow, The Pharaoh smiled, “We don’t have cameras in this era, remember? How can we document the Queen without a photo of her?”

“Ah,” MJ understood. “But, why the short top? Why aren’t I wearing what I usually wear?” She asked, wearing an gorgeous top covered in jewels and a skirt that had a large leg slit.

Mahad was standing near enough to hear the couple converse, watching the rest of the court work. He chimed in to respond, “You are going to be documented as you are today, MJ. A Half Mermaid.”

She blinked. That made sense. “Oh...why?”

Mana rolled her eyes.

“It may be nothing special to you, but having a mermaid as Queen of Egypt is kind of a huge deal, your majesty.” She explained, “Not something that can be forgotten in the future royal generations.”

“Why am I nervous?” MJ looked to her husband for comfort. He laughed. She was so used to keeping the mermaidness a secret, that being exposed as a fish in front of the entire court and an artist all at once felt equal to stripping naked in front of them.

The Pharaoh began to guide her to the throne.

“Because you’ve forgotten what’s important.” He said, lifting her chin. “Our child.”

MJ remembered her baby that she was only 6 weeks pregnant with.. a child that may possibly inherit her mermaid traits. And as the future Prince or Princess, it is likely that these traits will continue to be passed down for a while and the origin of that would need to be understood.

“Right.” She smiled, taking a seat on the chair. Mahad then placed her tiara on her head as the final piece left for her look. While he did this, she snuck in a little piece of jewelery of her own. Sora's necklace which she hung on her waist by the golden belt she wore. She thought it would be fitting to remember that she was not originally from this world.

“All the pieces are in place,” Mahad quoted the Pharaoh. A reference to the puzzle, “All by your orders, Pharaoh.”

“There's still one more,” Atem nodded, having dictated the entire set up.

“The final step...” He said, holding out his hand as Karim handed him a glass. The Pharaoh checked to see if the artist was ready and he was, prepared with brushes in hand. So the king moved aside MJ's skirt, opening it by the slid and letting it hang so that her leg was more exposed. He gently poured the water over her legs.

She uncomfortably watched as her bottom half reformed itself into her familiar tail. Everyone in the room pretended to be unphased, but it still surprised some of them.

Mahad put a piece of jewelry on the ankle of her shiny tail.

“How do you want me to sit?” MJ asked the king in a whisper.

“Naturally. Just keep your eyes on me the whole time.” He said. MJ blushed as that was the easiest and hardest task to ask of her. The Pharaoh stepped away from the throne and positioned himself behind the artist where he was out of the way but able to keep eye contact with his wife without distracting her from her position.

The artist began painting and MJ watched the Pharaoh watch her and the artist work, occasionally giving reassuring comments.

500 years later. Mahad is teaching a group of royal children, including the Prince of Egypt who would also be my great great...really great grandchild of Atem.

“It's important to continue the traditions of all the kings before you. To honour and remember all that they did.” Mahad explains in the garden with all of the children on a sunny afternoon.

“Especially Pharaoh Atem, right? He was the most amazing!” One of the children said.

“Yeah! He saved Egypt and had control over all three Gods!” One said as he made Swooshing hand motions from all the stories that they heard. Mahad smiled.

“He did. More than a few times.” He said. Before he can go on with his lesson, the prince interrupted.

“It was also Pharaoh Atem who had imp-like powers, right?” He asked, pulling on one piece of hair near his bangs that, for some reason, was teal in color. “That's why it runs in our family.”

Mahad chuckled. “Not exactly, your highness. The Royals have traits of sea-genes in their bloodline because at one point in time, a Mermaid married into the family and was Queen.”

The kids Ooo'd especially one of the girls who said, “A mermaid?? Seriously?”

“Yes, and she also happened to be the wife of Pharaoh Atem as well,” He added, “From Egypt nearly falling, having the Gods summoned and having a Mermaid in court... it was definitely an eventful point in Egypts history.”

Mahad used his magic to summon the Portrait that the artist painted of the Mermaid Queen from the past. “Her name was Mary Jane,” He said, the kids surprised at that strange name.

“What the- she's so beautiful!” One of the older children said, surprised.

The young prince examined the artwork, noticing how much more teal hair she had than he did. Seeing her on the same throne that he would claim one day made him feel excited to be part of the history. He recognized a lot of the Egyptian style jewelry she wore, but there was one thing he's never seen before.

“What's that, Master Mahad?” He asked. Mahad looked at where the young prince pointed and he spotted a tiny little silver crown-shaped piece of jewelry hanging at her side. A detail he never noticed before!

“Hmm,” Mahad said, going back to his memories and trying to remember it. But he just couldn't recall. He's never seen that before. Could it be something from the other world that she accidentally forgot to remove before the set?

“Actually, children,” He said, “I am not sure what that could be.”

“No one does,” another adult said, coming into the area where the class was taking place. It was the current Pharaoh of their time.

“Your Majesty,” Mahad politely bowed and allowed the king to speak.

“No one knows what that strange symbol could be. It's never been seen by anyone,” He explained, “My grandfather told me that the legend goes that the Queen had many secrets, and that crown symbolizes all of the unknowns. They also say that Pharaoh Atem himself personally requested that nothing be written about that piece of jewelery, though that could just be a stretch on the story.”

“It was probably the dumb artist who messed up,” A kid added.

“Hey!” The girl said, “Pharaoh Atem was awesome, he wouldn't hire a fault artist!” She defended.

“The Royal Court makes mistakes all the time,” Another child said, “At the last buffet, I specifically asked for figs. Guess what? No figs.” The boy answered.

“Nobody likes figs.” The girl said back. And as the kids continued to argue with each other, the young prince just stared at the painting of his ancestor...wishing there was a way he could meet her and the legendary Pharaoh Atem.
