She was the smallest and not as good at hunting as her brothers. They just figured her to potentially be the 'weakest' of the three as a warrior, and she'd be more suited to medicine cat life.

And this whole time I thought Smallpaw was a tom. But anyway poor Leaftail, it is probably going to have to take a huge tragedy that is very personal to Smallpaw to make her realize that her true purpose in life is to serve as ThunderClan next Medicine Cat.

I understand she doesn't want to be a medicine cat. No one wants to be forced into a job they don't want, or like for that matter...
I am concerned about Leaftail too. She won't live forever, and I get the feeling something will happen to her at some point. Either she ends up without an apprentice, and Thunderclan is without a medicine cat, or Smallpaw becomes her successor but has trouble doing her job, due to not having put enough effort to learn.
Either way, something is definitely going to happen to Leaftail...
PS: I have trouble having sympathy for Smallpaw, however, due to what she (and the other kits) did here
which subsequently (though unintentionally on her part) caused the event that doomed Stormbringer......

Why did Brightstar pick Smallpaw as the med cat apprentice? She’s gives no crap and is not going to be of use to anyone like this. Dare I say it, if they keep on going like this and Leaftail later on dies, Smallpaw will then become a med cat. She could kill cats with her lack of herbal knowledge and “I-give-no-shits” behavior. I just wonder why Bright didn’t pick a better apprentice for the job :T

If it was for the good of everyone else and people I cared about, I’d suck it up instead of being a little twat >_> I’ve been forced into situations I hated before, but I dealt with it cuz it benefited my friends

But she's being forced into a situation that would forbid her from ever taking a mate or having kids, and would disconnect her from her friends and the rest of the warriors in a big way, and would place a lot of responsibility on her shoulders that she never asked for. No one should be forced into that, and she has every right to be angry about it when she didn't choose it. ThunderClan still has a medicine cat, and Loonpaw is there too at the moment. Smallpaw should not be forced into such a restricting life.

It's my personal opinion that everyone should be able to choose the job they want rather than being forced to 'suck it up'. The position of a medicine cat is extremely restrictive and should especially only be for those who want it. Smallpaw should not be forced into a life where she can't make her own choices such as to have a mare or family.

The same could be said for Cinderpelt, but she dealt with it anyway. With three legs she is perfectly able to move well, yet she was forced to become a medicine cat apprentice. She never wanted that; she wanted a mate and kits too. Not everyone gets what they want; Smallpaw is just thinking of herself instead of the needs of her clan. Let’s not forget that she also charged straight into a battle as a kit and convinced her littermates to come along, which, ultimately, led to the event which caused Stormbringer’s death. She’s not the brightest. Anyway, I just don’t particularly like Smallpaw mkay? She’s an annoying little brat.
