Description Cherry branches hanging over a canal in Takasaki city, Gunma prefecture, Japan. Taken 04/2008.

Takasaki city is the home to the beatiful and magnificent Byakui Dai Kannon statue that stands approximately 140 feet atop a small mountain overlooking the city. The city in spring is nothing short of amazing because it is literally covered in flowers. Not only cherry blossoms, but flowers of all kinds; tulips, pansies, daffodils, ranunculi, English daisies, Primulas, to name a few. They have not only high number of flower beds, but they also have vertical displays of live flowers placed throught the central part of the city close to the train station. It is truly a treat to the senses.

Thanks!!!

This city had flowers everywhere and the people were so nice for a relatively big city. We were in a taxi coming down from the Kannon-yama when the driver mentioned the 10-minute walk to the train station along this canal. He made less money by doing that, but we appreciated his kindness because we could have missed this view!
