In this tutorial, I also explain the use of layer masks, which can be used to draw very intricate patterns by selectively hiding and showing the content of multiple layers at once!

Whoa okay, I have questions
mixer brush? whaaat? is that in clipstudio? It sounds hella useful.
since when does overlay do highlights? I tend to switch between overlay and multiply for ~darkening~ and use add for highlights. also, how do you get EITHER shading or highlighting to look good when there's a mixture of colors and values? I try that and it seems to always ignore one color or the other. Shading/highlighting over an existing pattern is my bane right now. At best I have to keep the pattern on its own layer so I can adjust the shadings on their own

Yup, Mask layers were just added in. I saw them in the patch notes... however, I don't very much know what they look like/ what I am looking for to activate it.

I'm honestly not sure if FireAlpaca does have them, usually all programs that use layers do, but because FA is on the simpler side in terms of interface, they might have omitted them
