Intelligent, insightful, well-educated and kind, Aurel takes his scholarly work very seriously. Although, generally he is quiet, he is not shy. He merely likes to be a spectator rather than an active participant. However, when he does speak, his opinion is highly respected in the academic world. Despite his seriousness in work, he does have a more relaxed personality to him when he is more liable to joke around and have fun. A side that he only shows to those close to him. In times of crisis, he is usually a good person to consult for he is generally calm and collected unless under a great deal of stress.
He might be a little awkward around the opposite sex, however. When he's drunk, he tends to stutter and blush a lot.

H I S T O R Y
Originally born into a militaristic, Spartan family whose lineage was expected to become warriors, Aurel was quite an “ugly duckling.” His attraction to the art of knowledge always left him isolated from the rest of his bloodkin. Often his parents told him of their family’s role to “protect the peace”; however, Aurel believed that knowledge was a better medium for preserving the peace of Voleros. Finally, at the young age of 13, Aurelius officially proclaimed his intentions to become a scholar. Immediately, his family broke ties with him. Ostracized from his own family, Aurelius decided to live as a hermit. He moved across the border away from his birthland Lumeria into the brighter climate of Elavernis. Aurel believed that spring represented new opportunity and growth like the flowers that flourished in the semi-warmth of the said season. Because of this, he became a resident of the country of spring.
In an isolated lake of some sort, Aurelius spent his days practicing his art of knowledge. Although originally a creature of the ocean, he adjusted well to freshwater, at first; however, eventually, he fell ill. He moved to the more comfortable shores of the seas. There he lived with absolutely no outside contact, completely content alone.
One day, he came across a strange silver bell made of an alloy of uncertain origin. It was a strange piece of craftswork, probably crafted with magic, as it did not ring whatsoever in the air; however, only submerged, would the bell ring a beautiful, clear note. Enchanted by his discovery, Aurel decided to keep the bell naming it the “Tidal Bell” for its unique quality.
It was thanks to the tidal bell that Aurelius was able to meet his first real companion. There was a creature that was constantly revisiting his dwelling, obviously interested in the Tidal Bell that he wore on his horn. As interested in the specimen as it was interested in his bell, Aurelius allowed her to stay within his dwelling. Although at first glance, she appeared a normal seahorse, it eventually became clear that she was something... special; however, he knew of no species of seahorse with a single horn on its head. Aurel named the seahorse Reia; she and he became life-long companions in his search for knowledge.
He recently has come out of his “hermitage” and has been reinaugurated into society. He became an official scholar for the Elavernis library, specializing in marine botany. His search for exotic plants often leads him to travel into other countries. One of his excursions into Risohli put him into contact with a certain hippocampi hydratherapist. She in need of marine plants only acquired in other countries hired him to collect these herbs for her. Thus, he came to know her daughter, his second friend: Lorelei. (lovfantasy’s character! Hope we both make it in!)

A D D I T I O N A L I N F O
-Aurelius has an extreme obsession with plant biology.
-He also has a strange affinity for jewelry; he is often seen with a variety upon his neck, wrists, ankles, and tail.
-He is also seen wearing his family crest occasionally—two leviathans with necks crossed.
-An interesting thing to note is that his species of leviathan (aka his family)’s hair grows different colors according to the season/climate (or in this case, country): black in the summer, white in the winter, and differing shades of grey during the autumn and spring seasons. Because of this, if he has extended visits to another country, he ends up growing a patch of a different color. (Kind of like how some animals change coat colors during different seasons.) His hair is generally shade of dark grey because he is a resident of Elavernis; however, recently he's been spending extended visits to the country of summer, and thus his hair appears black (in this profile [this is a total excuse for my failure in drawing grey hair xP]).
-Aurelius doesn’t have ears; instead, the fins next to his horns interpret sound waves for him. Because air is a less effective medium for sound waves, sometimes he has difficulty hearing above water.
-He holds no grudge against his family that disowned him; he merely regrets that he couldn’t get along with them.
-When he travels over land, he tends to trim his fins down so that they don’t get in the way of his walking.
-Also, the fins on his backs aren't all that wing-ish looking. They only look like that in the profile, because I wanted to show their shape. They’re actually limp on his back. In the water, they act as his pectoral fins (steering) while his powerful tail drives him through the water.
-His hands are slightly webbed, but not enough to disrupt his writing.
-The back of his neck and the soles of his feet are slightly scaled. His neck has gills, but they are dysfunctional (sadly). Mere decoration. D:
-He travels barefoot, so he has pretty bad calluses on the bottom of his feet.
-Carries around an empty scroll. He has no use for writing utensils as he makes his own by knotting together grass. Ink he also creates by himself.
-His first retreat was near Salu Waterfall, but then he moved all the way to a coral reef near Deadman's Island.
-Reia, the seaunicorn, is generally a light brown, cream, and pink. In dire situations she can use small amounts of magic to turn invisible, but alas, this shortens her lifespan greatly and she will rarely resort to this.
