Description ... that I wouldn't reach your leaves without flying ... hmm? said the little bee after she had built a really shaky tower with her bricks to finally climb upon its highest peak.

This painting was an experiment on painting a smooth background with fog and a sun which wants to break through the trees. And I am finally happy with the way it turned out ...

watercolor on extra rough paper (the paper was just a mistake and an even bigger challenge for me and my scanner, but I used the wrong block for sketching the painting ...)

Funny, child-like, beautiful and a bit silly: that bee can fly and does not need to build that tower or she likes the tower itself?
Great concept and great work

Well ... it was a competition between the bee and the tree. Would such a little bee able to reach the tree without flying? Yes she definitely can ... she's like my daughter. Thank you for your comment!

This is cute, I like your picture, And the smoothness of aquarelle. You manage to paint with aquarelle, I find it very difficult, so I doesn`t paint in that technique.. Keep up the good work you are doing! Thomas

Charming illustration. I like how you handled the stacked blocks. This splash of color really adds to the piece. I wish the tree's roots were a little more gnarled towards the base, but overall, this is really nice.

Thank you so much! That's a good hint! I thought a while on how I would paint the tree down to the base ... to get a realistic loss of details with the distance. I was a bit afraid to loose the perspective if I would add more structures at the trees base.

Thank you so much, David! Actually this painting has gone directly into my "art folder" ... ... maybe someday I will find a wall for hanging it up!

And it was a pleasure for me to talk with you about the painting and it steps during the last days! Thanks man! My first ideas included a boy who should build the tower but finally the paper size was to small to get a boy good enough detailed (with my skills hehe) there. So the bee was just a result of playing and drawing around ... ... but she reminds me on my daughter. She has sometimes the same attitude ...

DavidHoffrichter In reply to ascer [2007-01-13 14:12:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure your right. It'll find it's way out of that art folder some day, i mean, it sure is good enough for your walls It is always fun to talk in steps about the process. I actually think with what you have with the bee instead of the boy works better. So call it a happy mistake
