This is really great work!

Now I understand that you have limited options with your animation software, but there are still some things that I think are kind of off, and not because of that. I don't like how slowly the rain moves and, although all of it is angled down-right, some of it moves straight down. That doesn't really make sense eh?
Regardless, it's a really cool animation and an excellent original image (which I'm pretty sure you made so props).

But to those who are insulting those who point out flaws in this piece... yes, it has flaws, get over it. Like the author said you should be accepting of constructive criticism... I haven't seen any flaming but maybe I'm just missing it.

Anyone who flames this is obviously just jealous they can't create something so beautiful. The second I saw this I simply had to check it out closer. And I do say you did and absolutely amazing job.

Firstly, the image itself is lovely as is. Even if it weren't animated. You picked a good picture to work with animation on. I've always loved pictures that kind of faded from a foreground to a background. The ripples actually look very realistic and at first glance I thought this was a real rainfall.

To be quite frank, I never even noticed that it doesn't loop smoothly. That's the nice thing about rain. Rain falls at such a random pace that its so easy to work with. That also makes it easy to make the ripples even though they don't match the rain. You barely notice the few flaws unless you either look at it for a long time or are a major perfectionist.

I have nothing negative to say and I hope you continue to make amazing things like this. And congrats on the Daily Deviation. :3

Aaaand, calling people jealous is constructive? Support the artist. Don't feed the trolls who will see you calling them "jealous".

WOW!This one is a great animation!I'm surprised. The only thing that I can't understand is why those "raindrops" are like sharp ice-things or something.
Admitting that sometimes raindrops can be like this but not often.Still you get 4/5 for this part.
Now the background.Way big moon is something really rare and makes us dream!I can give you 5/5 for this! The reflection is great too but a bit of distortion should do the thing!
Those trees in the background were absolutely essential for this to be success. This makes the animation have a "magical" look that I really admire.5/5!
The reflection of the trees!I think that it should had been distorted too 'cause usually during rainfall we feel like the raindrops affect the image reflected in the water.(If I was not too clear,I am sorry)
The rest like:The sky,stars.....super-amazing!
Overall I can say that this picture is AB-SO-LUTE-LY Breathtaking!
Superb!I really love it!

Very calming and serene. Lovely picture.

Of course the animation loop is a little off, but I'm sure by now you already know this. Wish I could point you in the right direction, but I deal with extremely high end flash, but I'd say this came out better than others that I have seen.

Speaking of others that I have seen, this isn't that original, so I can't really give you credit for that, but other wise, you really nailed the aspects of this loop.

I would imagine it would be hard to find someone who doesn't love a good rainy day though~ Absolutely beautiful.

Hi Ashlee,
I usually look at your stock account but decided I should look at your individual accounts a bit too. I don't know what is wrong with the people who were so negative about this. I am not a "goth" person, as such, but I certainly appreciate and enjoy aspects of it. This is wonderful. I love that big moon up there and seeing it reflected in the water, as well as the rain and the movement on the water all interact to make this a gorgeous scene. I didn't realize at first that the rain part of this is on a loop but not knowing anything about animation, I don't know how it can be done anyway.
(My experience with animation consists of the point and click ease of Jasc, Paint Shop Pro 7.)

I also think that the lack of a multitude of stars is perfect. Let's face it. If it is raining, especially at night, we get the kind of cloud cover that prevents a lot of starshine getting through them.

I think it is a wonderful dark, brooding image with enough atmosphere to knock my socks off! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/r/r… " width="29" height="27" alt="" title="rofl"/>

For me this image shows another kind of beauty, not the bright sunshiny peppermint kind of beauty, (although there is a place for that as well). It is the dark beauty of night, and of elements beyond our control, of sights, sounds, and impressions that the light of day will never give us a sense of.

We all have dark aspects of our personalities, or perhaps more to the point, dark parts of ourselves that we don't allow people to see, in general.

This scene appeals to that, It does to me.

It is a great piece of art. I'm glad you made it.

Why is there much hate comments and critique's along with flammers on this!? This is amazing!~ I dont understand what there is to hate about this, its beautiful! Dare I say outstanding! Its a very nice animation, The moon on the lake setting was a bit, non-original though... e.deviantart.net/emoticons/f/f… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Sad)"/>

I honestly think that the stars in the beautiful night sky could have twinkled though, But other then that this piece is stunning~!

Its gorgeous and Extremely well made.

I also think that the moon effect on the lake/water would have been more "effected" by the ripples in the water.

In conclusion, Its an outstanding animation, And I love it! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart"/>e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>

when i first looked at the picture i was a amzed....till relised that the water was on a loop and didnt really match up with the snow.

what you could of done was
added more water drops and more spaced and make them match up with the snow.
if you wanted it to look more like rain, have it coming down instead of on the side. it makes me think of snow when its on the side.
less of the snow.
the background could also be driffent. less of the trees maybe?

all in all this is a very busy picture and not something i would like to stear at for more then 30 seasons before i get a head ache.

First off, the background.
It's overly used. I mean, a forest at night with a large full moon? That's been done so much that it's a running joke with most movie writers, animators and comic writers\artists. It's like the token-black guy. Every movie, TV series and book\graphic novel\comic has a scene (or more) with just that.
It also usually cues the crappy, overly planned and thought out emotional and dramatic heartfelt chat between two or more characters (Alive or dead).

The rain:
It doesn't really look like rain to me. It actually reminds me of shards of glass or needles falling down from the sky. And then to add to the bizarreness of it all, you have it falling and drifting like snow... That's just confusing to the viewer. It should be a constant, forward action.

The water:
I can stare at this image for three seconds and tell you it's the same animation just laid on top of each other... It doesn't vary, nor does it feel like a natural occurrence.

The animation: How many frames are you using?
'Cause, to tell you the truth, it's jerky to me. It should have a smooth and constant feel to it.

All in all, it feels like an animation done in the open-source Gimp program. I feel like there has been no effort actually put into this animation.

U SOOOO MEAN, GUIZ. :C

LOL, To be honest i found this to be fair. At first glance, the image looks pretty good, but what you've pointed out is true and beneficial to this person if they hope to become an animator.

Fair. The rain reminds me more of snow by the way it moves, which is confusing since they're straight lines. Pretty sure I've seen that moon somewhere before, so I can't help but wonder how many pieces of this were borrowed from other sources.

While a good idea on paper, this work falls apart due to the fact that the animation was made with a free program [link] with some pre-made script, with no attention to the end result.

It looks separated, the background and the animation do not merge at all.

Especially unsettling is the rain jerking up, due to the loop not working properly, and the ripples being too big and not enough for that amount of rain - both aspects could've easily been fixed if the artist had tried to do this themselves instead of letting it to the program.

Animations are not something to take lightly, loops are one of the most important aspects, a bad loop can ruin hours of work.

The background itself gives a soothing atmosphere, it is certainly better without the wonky animation on top of it - and since it is actually thing the artist "made" themselves, it is the only thing that can actually be critiqued.

This is a very average photo manip. Several trees are repeated and can be spotted very easily, if not instantly, one should always use that extra time into either editing some trees or finding more, so that none would repeat.

The color scheme offers purely blue-metallic, it would've worked much better with just a little touch of another color, such as purple or even a very faint red.

The idea itself - a moon with a starry sky, trees in almost pure black, is a very repeated idea, but this image still has that little touch that makes it "unique", that being the "water" that is below the trees.

This should not discourage you or anybody else, for every piece you make means the next one will be better.

Remember - pay attention to your loops, never stick to only one color, and make sure no items are repeated.

Thank you for your honest Critique. The flaws you pointed out I agree with. I'm still trying to figure out how to make a loop look good with this free program so that is something that does kind annoy me as well. This was more of just something to play with and try and make it come to life. For what it is I think it's fun to look at even though it's not 100% realistic.

Just...Wow - Phenominal!

The background is just simply stunning! Good use of tools!

I also like the relflection in the water - without care, it colour look tackey - But here, it is done to perfection, demonstrating a lot of skill!

The animation as just...mindblowing.

The ripples in the water look soo real, and...real!

I am in awe of this picture - Its beautiful and has its own character! The rain does not look like its been added it - it looks like it belongs to the picture, which i find amazing!

I have seen lots of animations, but none like this! This is a one of a kind - Good Job!
