I like the image, but saying "they're jealous" is just lame.

I was just making commentary. No need to be rude about it.

Aaaand, calling people jealous is constructive? Support the artist. Don't feed the trolls who will see you calling them "jealous".

Hi Ashlee,
I usually look at your stock account but decided I should look at your individual accounts a bit too. I don't know what is wrong with the people who were so negative about this. I am not a "goth" person, as such, but I certainly appreciate and enjoy aspects of it. This is wonderful. I love that big moon up there and seeing it reflected in the water, as well as the rain and the movement on the water all interact to make this a gorgeous scene. I didn't realize at first that the rain part of this is on a loop but not knowing anything about animation, I don't know how it can be done anyway.
(My experience with animation consists of the point and click ease of Jasc, Paint Shop Pro 7.)
I also think that the lack of a multitude of stars is perfect. Let's face it. If it is raining, especially at night, we get the kind of cloud cover that prevents a lot of starshine getting through them.
I think it is a wonderful dark, brooding image with enough atmosphere to knock my socks off! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/r/r⦠" width="29" height="27" alt="" title="rofl"/>
For me this image shows another kind of beauty, not the bright sunshiny peppermint kind of beauty, (although there is a place for that as well). It is the dark beauty of night, and of elements beyond our control, of sights, sounds, and impressions that the light of day will never give us a sense of.
We all have dark aspects of our personalities, or perhaps more to the point, dark parts of ourselves that we don't allow people to see, in general.
This scene appeals to that, It does to me.
It is a great piece of art. I'm glad you made it.

First off, the background.
It's overly used. I mean, a forest at night with a large full moon? That's been done so much that it's a running joke with most movie writers, animators and comic writers\artists. It's like the token-black guy. Every movie, TV series and book\graphic novel\comic has a scene (or more) with just that.
It also usually cues the crappy, overly planned and thought out emotional and dramatic heartfelt chat between two or more characters (Alive or dead).
The rain:
It doesn't really look like rain to me. It actually reminds me of shards of glass or needles falling down from the sky. And then to add to the bizarreness of it all, you have it falling and drifting like snow... That's just confusing to the viewer. It should be a constant, forward action.
The water:
I can stare at this image for three seconds and tell you it's the same animation just laid on top of each other... It doesn't vary, nor does it feel like a natural occurrence.
The animation: How many frames are you using?
'Cause, to tell you the truth, it's jerky to me. It should have a smooth and constant feel to it.
All in all, it feels like an animation done in the open-source Gimp program. I feel like there has been no effort actually put into this animation.

U SOOOO MEAN, GUIZ. :C
LOL, To be honest i found this to be fair. At first glance, the image looks pretty good, but what you've pointed out is true and beneficial to this person if they hope to become an animator.

Fair. The rain reminds me more of snow by the way it moves, which is confusing since they're straight lines. Pretty sure I've seen that moon somewhere before, so I can't help but wonder how many pieces of this were borrowed from other sources.

While a good idea on paper, this work falls apart due to the fact that the animation was made with a free program [link] with some pre-made script, with no attention to the end result.
It looks separated, the background and the animation do not merge at all.
Especially unsettling is the rain jerking up, due to the loop not working properly, and the ripples being too big and not enough for that amount of rain - both aspects could've easily been fixed if the artist had tried to do this themselves instead of letting it to the program.
Animations are not something to take lightly, loops are one of the most important aspects, a bad loop can ruin hours of work.
The background itself gives a soothing atmosphere, it is certainly better without the wonky animation on top of it - and since it is actually thing the artist "made" themselves, it is the only thing that can actually be critiqued.
This is a very average photo manip. Several trees are repeated and can be spotted very easily, if not instantly, one should always use that extra time into either editing some trees or finding more, so that none would repeat.
The color scheme offers purely blue-metallic, it would've worked much better with just a little touch of another color, such as purple or even a very faint red.
The idea itself - a moon with a starry sky, trees in almost pure black, is a very repeated idea, but this image still has that little touch that makes it "unique", that being the "water" that is below the trees.
This should not discourage you or anybody else, for every piece you make means the next one will be better.
Remember - pay attention to your loops, never stick to only one color, and make sure no items are repeated.

Thank you for your honest Critique. The flaws you pointed out I agree with. I'm still trying to figure out how to make a loop look good with this free program so that is something that does kind annoy me as well. This was more of just something to play with and try and make it come to life. For what it is I think it's fun to look at even though it's not 100% realistic.
