FS: Hey Twi, you’re home late tonight.
Twilight: I know, I know. I’m sorry. But it was such a long day at the castle, and since the whole day was filled up with meetings with the hippogriffs, the seaponies, and then the dragons.. I had my hooves full until now cleaning up the conference notes and reviewing it before I actually present them tomorrow.
FS: Aww, honey..
Twilight: It’s fine. All part of the job, right? *yawns* I have another conference tomorrow, so we should really get to bed. *climbs into bed, but sees a lump under the blanket* Ummm.. Flash?
FS: *chuckles* Yep, it’s just Day. It actually took me forever to get the little tyke to sleep. You know how much she hates sleeping alone in her room. I let her stay up a little with me while we waited for you, but she got sleepy around her bedtime anyways.
Twilight: Ohhhhh, my poor Dazy. *kisses Day’s forehead, and then Flash* Why don’t you carry her over to her room? Since she’s asleep already, I don’t think I’ll have to tuck her in tonight.
FS: Alright, come on lil buddy. *takes Day to her room, then comes back*
Twilight: Finally we can rest. Sweet Celestia, I’m sooo tired.
*about 30 minutes later, thumping sounds are heard outside the door*
Twilight: H-huh? What was that?
*thumping continues*
Twilight: What..Flash, do you hear something?
FS: Huh, whaa..
Day: ..mommy..
Twilight: Oh it’s just Day. No don’t get up, honey. I can take care of this. *sleepily gets up, rubbing eyes* Day? Day, is everything alright?
Day: ……………
Twilight: Day?
Day: *hugs Twilight’s leg* I-I’m scared…
Twilight: Sweetie, there’s nothing to be afraid o--
Day: ..of the dark.
Twilight: Oh. Oh, Day, look the dark can’t hurt you. See? *horn glows and illuminates their faces* See, it’s just me. This is your room, and it looks just the same as it did in the morning. Nothing here is going to hurt you. *As soon as she turns off the light, Day whimpers and buries her face in her mother’s chest floof*
Twilight: Day, would you feel safer if you slept with Smarty Pants? He was my doll when I was a foal, and if you hug him, maybe you won’t feel as scared.
Day: ……….
Twilight: Do you want to sleep with the lights on?
Day: ……………
Twilight: *sighs* Fine. You can sleep in our room.
Day: …………………….okay.
Twilight: But just for tonight. Tomorrow, I’m getting you a nightlight.

Day always slept with her parents because she’s pretty terrified of the dark and the “monsters” in her closet. Flash Sentry and Twilight have been trying to get her to sleep on her own but each and every time she finds some way to sneak into their room again. Eventually she does learn to sleep on her own with a nightlight, but she never really gets over her fear and general dislike of the night and the dark.
Crash is at magic boarding school in Canterlot, which is why he and Day don’t see each other too often unless one of them is visiting. She’s too young to follow Twilight to meetings, but whenever she can she loves to tag along to Canterlot.
