Sarah stood, flabergasted at the story’s meaning. Her story to Toby all those years ago was really true. She’d convinced herself so long ago that Jareth had simply used her for his games. She couldn’t remember everything now, but it was slowly returning to her mind.

Jadia barely made it out of the castle and into the city before she stumbled. Jareth would keep his own mind for a while longer, but her own time was running out. Toby was not the proper heir to The Labyrinth. Jareth knew that, yet he had insisted on the boy.
Jadia cursed herself inwardly as she strode through the twisting, filthy streets of the goblin city. She needed to visit the Underdwellers, and soon. As she came to the outer gate, she looked to her feet and the hem of her dress, already it was fading into transparancy.
She didn’t have time left to dwaddle.

Jareth poured over his thoughts. He had chosen Toby as his heir because he knew he needed the boy to bring Sarah to him. But also because the boy had such potential to be great.
His memories began to creep to him. Memories of a baby coming to him willingly. If her mother.
How he had adored showing that child his magic. How he had once loved the sound of her laughter gurgling through the goblin-wrought hallways. He had adored the baby Sarah.
Linda... His heart ached for little Toby, who wouldn’t know of his mother. Jareth had tried to save her. He had still loved the woman, the princess in a created world.
Jareth’s mind wandered a moment, pondering if Sarah knew Toby was only a half brother. Surely she couldn’t be so blind as to know Toby’s blue eyes rivaled his own. Or his unruly hair always shaping itself to the natural part of the Goblin King’s.
She very likely never thought of it. How ironic a thing, for none but the King himself to know of his own blood-heir.
That small thought comforted him.
Yet, his mind would always slip back to Sarah. She held so much more power within her. And as he loved her mother, he loved her ever more. He love her mother briefly, but his heart lay with the girl now trapped once more within his realm. And yet, out of reach of his power.
In anger, Jareth threw the crystal onto the bed. It had shown him nothing. Jadia had been clever again. She had placed a spell on the girl. He coulldn’t even look into her piercing determined eyes. And the not knowing what was happening with his future bride was driving him insane!

Sarah felt a tug at her heart as she looked from carving to carving over, and over, again. She absorbed every aspect of the tales the strange pictures told. They made things clearer, and she could only imagine what would happen now, for the carvings stopped just after the one destined to marry Jareth was born.
