Continuing my armoured MLP humans, I thought I'd switch it up to a character who had no presence in my gallery up till now!!!Following in the style of my previous Saturday piece, Knight for Apples
With magic...
Progress was a bit slower, but still fun. Had to actually figure out how she looked haha. Besides having to make a human face again from scrap which is always interesting.
Wanted plate, but also not full plate, so went a bit more battlemage...ish. Including some magic.
Also some inspiration from the "My Past is Not Today"
Still good song.
PS: I want so many more official Music Videos still!
Anyhow, I'm not sure if or rather when I'll do more humanizations. Next Saturday will be episode art, so that's a no go then. But some day it'll continue.

I know this is an old drawing (you made it like a month ago) but I ran across this and was hoping I could critique!
You made the reflection of the sun on her chest plate so, real! I pay attention to the details and if details just don't look right then that effects my review but you nailed them! The ruffles on the clothes, the layering of the hair and clothes, it just fits perfectly! I just can't believe the talent I find on DA and I am never disappointed. Me has a just regular artist who is starting out is amazed buy the technique you used! The transparency of the wings (they are wings right?) and the fiery stuff in her hand work amazingly! I need to stop writing but lemme just say this is amazing. Great job and keep up the good work!

what, so many comments yet no critique? then I will answer your request
ok, so first about what we see: Sunset Shimmer as some kind of Warrior/Fairy. The clothes are done really well, both in design and shading. Her fairy-like wings made from "light and fairy dust" are subtle, yet still recognizable, and give her some kind of magic aura, strenghten by her left hand bursting with sparks and her veins being filled with magic. Looks like she is casting some sort of spell that increases her agility
Her hair is well done, but i must say, the look on her face, although in an emotional sense perfectly carrying the message, looks a little bit masculine, don't know if that was what you were going for.
the plants overall fit quite good in the scenario.
two more things: her right foot seems kinda twisted, and I think a medieval european longsword with straight blade would fit her better
originality: well it is unusual to see mlp cast portrayed in this way, as warrior with a darker atmosphere, I like that
technique: ok sorry I'm not very experienced with digital art, so my opinion might seem worthless here, but I think it's really fitting. the smooth edges, the lighteffects, it all works really good together
impact: it's sunset, who doesn't love her? as i said, it's an unusual depiction of her, so it catches the eye, also, the good contrast between her magic and the dark forrest is pretty good

just one more thing you could improve, in my point of view, but I like your style anyway
in the first equestrian girls movie, she turned into this raging she-demon. maybe you could give her more demon-like wings instead of fairywings? I know it's just my taste, but I would love to see you try that, like she is in some kind of distress, and unleashes her dark power to be able to fight against a strong foe or sth like that, that would be awesome
but, as i said, that point is only an opinion, not a real critique

Wow! I have got to say, I was NOT expecting this. Looking at your other works, I know you're an Applejack fan, so this was definitely an eye opener from the get-go. And you're right, creating a human face from scratch is a real challenge, but you delivered.
Excellent spin on the title you chose. I also love the phoenix emblem on her armor. From those, I can deduce that you've seen the short "My Past Is Not Today". I mean, let's be honest, who hasn't?
I also like that you kept her original colors instead of the new blue she's started wearing. An interesting choice to go with the saber, excellent. All in all, you have astounded me.
Oh, and if you DO plan on making more of these with the rest of the Mane Six, let me be the first of hopefully many to say good luck to you, and I patiently await the next one.

I am by no means trying to belittle it, but I'm getting a "Friendship is Manly" vibe, mostly from here facial expression. I love it though, and (maybe its just me) but I love how you made her look much older than AJ, like she should, (but doesn't because of times loops or whatever)

Those wings and magic in her hands gives her a images of a Paladin kinda thing.
Redemption is a path all paladins end up going through to gain their holy spells.
I like this art alot.
Now I can only see her like a Tirion fordring or Uther lightbringer or better, Arthas(All warcraft characters xD)

She looks mostly great, but let me just say that her hair REALLY doesn't look good in this particular style. It's more like a terrible dye than her natural hair color. Anyway, everything else about this picture is awesome.
