Why is the photo so light? Wasn't it night time?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

atom7 In reply to DMcRae [2007-07-07 01:29:28 +0000 UTC]

I guess the moon, which was close to full, and the 100minute exposure time would have done that.

Outstanding! I can only imagine when you dialed in the exposure...freaking great work!

Thanks very much. The exposure time was refined over a few nights until i got one that i was happy with. A lot of hit and miss beforehand though.

Amazing capture! I love night shots. I love how your shot makes it appear as you've lost nothing to the darkness of night as if it was taken in the middle of the day. It's amazing whats hidden behind nights veil that we never see

I'm big on night shots as well but never seem to take enough. Thanks for the comment.

Great capture... that was a long exposure! How did you achieve so low noise?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

atom7 In reply to Svelon [2007-05-06 17:18:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I dont know really to be honest. i would have to put it down to the long exposure noise reduction setting on my camera. Didn't really notice until you mentioned it.

Great exposure mate, we've been thinking of doing something like this, with a full moon coming up, and hopefully a clear night, hmm, fingers crossed,

I dont think you dont want a full moon. i think it is too bright but i could be wrong. cheers

Yea, been and done that, A new moon, would be better, and outside of Sydney away from all the ambient light,
Cheers,

man this is incredible!!

atom7 In reply to TRBPhotographyLLC [2007-04-30 10:36:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much. It took a lot of patience. At 1oomin exposure then 1oomin processing I could only really take 1 shot a night. Plus it tends to go through the battery power quickly.

Make sure your camera battery is fully charged before you take it.

Is it made from 2 exposures? one for the sky and one for the landscape? I really don't understand how can both the landscape and the sky be so well exposed. Ultra mega fantastic shot btw

atom7 In reply to MasezDromaderi [2007-04-25 15:23:50 +0000 UTC]

it is one photo with an exposure time of around 100 minutes in order to pick up the star trails. Thanks for the kind words.

The landscape looks like it has been shot during the day...and the sky is added later

not at all. It is all one shot.

Im just thinking... Is it some kind of Spacestation, or sattelite...that diagonal line in the picture?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

atom7 In reply to GPStrider [2007-04-25 13:11:16 +0000 UTC]

Although i didn't see it go over my guess is that it would probably have been a sattelite. There is so much stuff up there that it is hard to avoid getting the in the shots.
