Description A Tricorder design from Star Trek DS9/Voyager era.

I never much liked the Tricorder designs we see in Star Trek. They seemed to me like they could do many things (usually just from 1 or 2 button "presses") and yet they only had a tiny display, a couple buttons, and a bunch of flashing lights. It's hard to imagine how they could perform a variety of functions that quickly from the limited amount of inputs they have. But, for all I know, the 24th century tech design in the Trek world might be so efficient that they would actually work well even with so few inputs. But in either case, this is my design for a Tricorder with a much bigger display, and many more inputs.

The top portion of the Tricorder has a touch-sensitive display, four "soft-keys", Active Scan light, Signal Scan clarity (red bar), and Signal Strength (blue bar).

The bottom portion is a variable input section (the buttons will change depending on what function it is performing).

Currently, this Tricorder is set to scan for lifeforms. As you can see from the display, it has found a Vulcan 2.23 KM away.

Made in Adobe Illustrator and additional textures and highlights made in Photoshop.

Nice work. This will make a great 25th century Tricorder, perfect for Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek Online.

I really like your design and totally agree with what you stated in the series' tricorders.
But why not make the soft-buttons even smaller in favor of a wider screen? I think noone needs them that size. You could use that little bit additional space for displaying further information (maybe signal interferences). Your LCARS color are chosen well - some people tend to use full colors instead of pastels. But maybe you should assign the colors to the buttons context sensitive. Cancel should get an own color (something reddish?) and scan and record should have the same as they are both execution commands. Ah well, I think you geht the point.
I am not sure. But your proportional kinda look odd to me. Refer to the original design and check upper:lower.
All just suggestions. You're a doing great job there!

Well hell ANYTHING is better than the ones they have (or rather had) now!

To be honest I always preferred the ones in The Original Series, the ones that look like leather carry bags with the silver instruments and the small viewscreen on it. Those always struck me as much cooler....or maybe it was the pointy-eared guy in the blue shirt that I liked as much, who knows LOL!

This is the most efficient tricorder I have ever seen. I like that it has the colorful touch panel.

Very nice, sir. If they ever make a new series after Voyager, we'll need to start a petition to make sure the tricorders have no buttons ^_^
