Did you make this account just to talk shit to me?
That's pretty sad.

And sorry to tell you, I have already done tattoos on people. But this is NOT going to be tattooed. Once again, that's why it's NOT in the 'tattoo design' category.

It's really easy to just bite someone else's style, I've done plenty of Sailor Jerry re-paints, but I'm not about to post someone else's work on my profile. So yeah, in an effort to make something not identical to someone else's style, this is what came out.

It's just a drawing dude, and not even a finished one, but a sketch. Get over it.

That aside, DeviantArt is a place for artists to give and receive CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. You're just being an asshole and being really rude. If all the mentors in the world were like you, we would have no artists.

There's no crying in tattooing........

honestly considering that was just a "sketch" let me see some tattoos you have done then?

I'm not crying about anything, but I'm not going to just sit by and watch you talk down to me over the internet. That's stupid.

And I haven't posted the tattoos I have done because they are only linework, and I don't want to post an unfinished product. Also I have only done 3, and all 3 of them were something the client chose off the flash wall or found online, so I don't see how that would be a representation of my ability to draw anything.

Have you even looked at anything else I have posted? The two you commented on are two attempts at a style I have NEVER tried to draw freehand until just recently, so obviously they won't be perfect, but judging my artistic ability completely on two drawings is kind of narrow-minded.

I'm just curious if you have had a formal apprenticeship. Either you haven't...or whom ever is teaching you is WAY to nice...and you will never progress. You can fly off the handle and think I'm an asshole but I have way more to offer you then most people. Think about it....

What shop do you even work at???

I'm in the process of a formal apprenticeship right now, but I've only been there a few months. My former mentor was kinda flakey and never showed up to work, then he left to open his own shop, so I've been bounced around a bit, and am just now getting a new mentor.

And I kind of feel like if I told you what shop I work out, you would just go talk shit to my boss, and I don't really want that to happen. I would like to avoid excess drama.

no...not trying to call your shop. Apprenticeships should be brutal and tattoos are permanent. Usually people in apprenticeships are use to getting brutally honest advice. I was more curious if you had someone that was actually showing you the ropes.

I'm used to getting brutally honest advice from the people I work with.
But over the internet just seems silly.

My mentor doesn't look at every little scribble I do, but I post every little scribble on here to hopefully get feedback and be told what I can improve upon. I only show him the finished products, because I know these doodles aren't perfect, and have no place in our shop.

Hey Cheyla ..I thought we were gonna be pen pals.... You and the guys from "For Ink Sake" never got back to me after I posted some pics of my work. I'm still curious what the west coast or more specifically Atascadero ca has to offer me. That was just a weird comment...WEST COAST. LOL I grew up in California...also did some guest spots in the bay area...little shop that was called Primal Urge...Grime and Marcus...but I probably wouldn't know anything about the West Coast...right? I could care less were shops are..There are TONS of Amazing tattooers all over the world.

I know you think it's silly to critique someone online but it doesn't make it any less true. You are correct I have better things to do with my time...this is just entertaining. Like I said before...if you were humble and just took what i said for face value it would help you make the next thing you post on the WORLD WIDE WEB that much better.

Hmmm... that's kinda creepy. How exactly did you figure all that out?

Anyway, I didn't say any of that shit, that was Clayton. I don't think he intended the west-coast comment the way you interpreted it, but I can't speak for him. Maybe you and he should discuss it? I'll tell him you posted some pictures and you guys can go from there.

And anyway, I only post shit on here to get critiques, that's the whole point of this website, but calling something 'the ugliest piece of shit you've ever seen'and telling me I'm so bad I should just kill myself is not a critique. If you have any suggestions other than 'get better or quit', I'm open to them, but if all you're going to do is down-talk me with no suggestions as to how I can improve, I'd like it if you would just leave me alone.

Are you really happy how this turned out? I really don't understand what " tradition" you are trying to uphold....the tradition of being terrible? I can only assume you are speaking of traditional tattooing. If that's true your are sadly so far from what traditional is. I can only hope that you do not do tattoos. If i am correct that you do not do tattoos DO NOT EVER TRY TO!!!!!!!!! This is the ugliest piece of shit I have ever seen. Would you honestly be happy with this on your body for ever. This is probably something you stole from a tattoo artist and tried to "draw". Leave tattoo "art" to tattooers..they do it best.

Wow,that was really rude.
Like, I'm kind of in shock how rude it was. You're quite the bitch, aren't you?

And actually, yes I do tattoo, I'm just an apprentice, so I'm still learning. But still, for being one of my first attempts, I don't think this came out half bad.
And no I didn't 'steal' it from anyone, it's my own freehand sketch. I don't see anything wrong with adding my own personal touch to a pre-existing style. Better than just completely ripping off someone else's design and calling it my own.... like you do.

Okay so, the comment left with my account was from my friend and mentor, who also happens to be an extremely talented tattoo artist with experience running a successful tattoo shop for ten years and has been tattooing for over 18. He put this here without my knowledge. First,If you had seen my gallery, you would see that any of the flash I have posted i do not claim to be my own. ALL of it i have given credit to being sailor jerry's. They're repaints, which my mentor is encouraging to do and i suggest is really helpful when learning to tattoo. Also, I have WAY more original artwork in my gallery that I work very hard on. I suggest looking through my stuff to see how "untalented" I am before you critique me just as harshly as my friend did you. Secondly, and this is why i showed this owl to him, is that your owl is no where near being "traditional". Something he knows a lot about. Also, Deviant art is (supposed to be) a place where critique should be appreciated. I know my friend was very harsh, and yes, he will probably get bitched out my me in the near future. I have to admit, this is a bit embarrassing. I think he was only trying to help, but he's a pretty tough guy, he doesn't know how to be soft...

Well, I appreciate the reply, and I am not opposed to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, but calling something 'the ugliest piece of shit you have ever seen' is not really a critique, it's just plain rude. I'm aware it's not really traditional, it was just a sketch that I did while I was bored. If I wanted to do something really by-the-book traditional, I could just re-draw something, but I wanted to play around with the style and make something a little different.

That aside, I didn't call you untalented, because that would be lying. Game recognize game, ya know? All I did was point out that your traditional flash was not your own original work.
Anyway, I appreciate the explanation.
