I guess the tide was out and he got beached. The scenario sugests a dry tide pool. Look at the fishes and starfishes.

Why is the mosasaur on a shore? Is it because it got beached, or was it because you hypothesis that they laid their eggs in a similar fashion to modern sea turtles?

Judging by the title, he got stranded when the tide went out

But this brings something else to mind, I know some people theorize plesiosaurs came on land to lay their eggs, like sea turtles; however I've never heard of mosasaurs doing it but it makes sense
anyway, you know how whales cant be on land for any period of time because they are so heavy their organs get crushed by their own weight; could that happen to the larger plesiosaurs and mosasaurs, like this guy here?

Wyatt-Andrews-Art In reply to Hunter12396 [2016-06-24 16:58:00 +0000 UTC]

But it's been proven plesiosaurs gave live birth with that polycotylid..

Such a clever composition! The art is so well executed that it is easy to imagine that this kind of ecological scenario unfolding for real back in the Mesozoic. The effect of the clear water over the rippled sand is very beautifully done by the way.

That shallow puddle rendering is perfect. The creatures, camera angle, lighting etc are all incredibly well done but that little body of water sells the realism. Everything in your gallery is impressive.

That's not a whale, it's a mosasaur, a group of large marine reptiles that lived during the late Cretaceous.

That's not an ichthyosaur,it is a mosasaur.Ichthyosaurs were extinct by the time tyrannosaurs appeared.

I really like this one (I like all of them) but New sience proves that all the mosasauruses had a Ichtyosaur-looking tail actually. but it is still very great!
