I had a galaxy brain moment and decided to make a crossover between Journey and Detroit: Become Human!
Journey has been a favorite game of mine for a long time

I also managed to inspire a friend in New ERA to outline an entire fic and I am Very Excited for it
Connor is the equivalent of a red cloak, and Nines is the equivalent of a white cloak.

Vague thoughts:
Looking at the visions in-game, it looks like the mountain was the source of a powerful life-giving magic. Society got greedy and fought over it, used it all, killed each other for it.
In this AU, the Travelers may have been Kamski's one last attempt to right the wrong of their civilization. They were created to gather this energy to help the world recover, with some ancient ones' minds preserved to guide them. Perhaps, after somany years, they've done sufficient work that the magic can recover on its own now - the travelers don't need to keep gathering it, but the program wasn't really designed to stop.
Over the eons, the preserved minds possible became less and less able to communicate clearly, and many of their memories fade into haziness? For Amanda, all she knows is to keep the system going, but some others hold on to other things, other wishes and thoughts and desires.
