Description The Late Cretaceous alligator, Deinosuchus rugosus, aka "Phobosuchus."

Much is made about the fact that D. rugosus is estimated to be around 40 to 50 feet long, thus leading people to suspect that it ate dinosaurs for a living.
It may have been that D. rugosus attacked dinosaurs and or fed on their corpses whenever the opportunity arose (given as how virtually all crocodilians, even many of the specialist species, are opportunistic feeders), but, the large, pyramid-shaped back teeth strongly suggest that its primary prey were large turtles.

Wouldnยดt those back teeth be equally useful for breaking large dinosaur bones?

In scavenging, yes. In live dinosaurs, not so much, as they would have struggled in the process.

Well it had to kill the dinosaur BEFORE starting to eat, right?

seems like there were quite a few specialized turtle eaters in the late cretaceous.
