THE MEN ARE THIRTY HERE. Just want to get that out before people start screeching about hair and muscles. Their bodies have peaked. They've spent the last fifteen years flying and farming and doing whatever Vikings do.This was really good for me. I got to practice different body types as well as different hair growth patterns. I even threw in a couple scars here and there.
If I was willing to put more time in it I would have added more scars, some tattoos, freckles.... but I wasn't. This was for anatomical purposes.Note:
Tuffnut has an outie bellybutton, the rest have innies Tuffnut has curly-ish body hair, the rest have straight Fishlegs has the sparsest body hair Hiccup and Snotlout have the thickest body hair Fishlegs is the palest. Tuffnut is the tannest.Characters © Dreamworks

I'm actually of the strong mind that Hiccup has a fair amount of body hair based off of my friends who share similiar body types to him. String, wiry, and can grow a beard in less than two weeks. Plus, with Hiccup's genetics it all kind of fits…

Ohhh, I see... Looking at the movie I imagined his body hadn't still developed (is that the word you use for bodies? when someone is a teenage and his body gets more mature...), so he wouldn't have much hair. But yeah, I imagine a beard on him (actually, I picture his 17/18s with a goatee), and you're right with the genetics thing... hahaha

Oh that's okay! These bodies that I drew are them as adults anyway, not how they were in the movie. This is my prediction for how they end up.

Have you seen this torso tutorial? [link] Your commentary reminded me of it. Also, I love how insightful you were and how much thought you put into it constructing different types of torsos. Most people don't do that. |D I can barely draw torsos myself lolol.

this helps and a lot at the time of creating character not only with a big and strong body, the are many diferent kinds of bodys and with this work you put that very clear XD!!

This was really neat to see, just to view the difference in body types. Also I liked seeing how they'd look as adults in an outdoors, labor intensive and high risk society like Medieval Norse. It was very realistic rather than fanservice. For example, you focused on overall muscle tone and body hair rather than idealistic six pack abs. Snotlout is the only one who has that, and it would fit his character since he's very into his own looks.
Freckles... I'd figure those would be fading away as they got older anyway, so it was not vital to have those.
I hope this gave you good practice for stretching your artistic talents. It looked to me like you got a chance to show some new styles and skills.
What did you use for references? Photos or art anatomy guides?

Thanks! It was really fun for me to draw, and really good for me too. I was definitely going for realism over fanservice. In fact, I was thinking of doing the ladies too.
I just google-imaged older male bodies or something like that and looked at those for pose references. Once I had that down I just wung it with the shading and structures. Though I also had to look up different hair patterns and how to do scars.

You were really good at writing his shirtless scenes in "Hitchups"- in my fanfic all the characters are more concerned with some bruises that he's accumulated rather than his abs.

You know, I'm really glad you appreciated that. I wanted to always describe bodies in a more realistic perspective and not do that whole 'fan service thing'. It usually pays off if you avoid that.
