Description
Name: Ava Gabrielle Arlie
Born: May 3, 1996; Raleigh, North Carolina
Allegiance: Assassins
Bio: Ava was a normal girl born in Raleigh but raised in Minneapolis to a Lakota mother named Kiki and a father she never knew. She was raised in a small town community by her mother and grandmother, and was known as the good kid of the neighborhood. She grew up hearing tales of her grandmother's adventures during the Red Power Movement, and was inspired to be a strong independent young lady who stood up for those in need. She was even given her mother's necklace (previously her grandmother's) on her tenth birthday. Ava continued to have an average high school career: getting good grades, meeting friends, planning for college, all that good stuff. She even learned violin. However, despite her planning, money was still tight when the time came for college, and so she decided to take a year off before she started and look for a good job that could give her the funds she'd need. She managed to land a job down in North Carolina as a clerk at the local Abstergo Industries building, where she made a pretty decent living. She even met her best friend, Ben Dylan, while working there, and for a while it seemed things would go smooth as always.
Then in October 2015, she stumbled across something she shouldn't have. While sorting files on her lunch break, she accidentally spilled a few documents relating to the mysterious “Project Roanoke”, which she initially shrugged off. Unbeknownst to her, she'd be thrust into the center of the plot later that night. Kidnapped in her home by masked Abstergo agents, she was strapped to a chair in an unknown building and forced into a machine called the Animus, which made her relive the memories of her 16th century Croatoan ancestor, Kahente, a member of the Assassin Brotherhood seeking to liberate the lost Roanoke Colony from its Templar oppressors. Her captors were apparently looking for some sort of artifact, but they never got the chance to, as shortly thereafter Ava was rescued by none other than her friend Ben, who fled with her to Roanoke Island in order to destroy the artifact the Templars were after. After the adventure, Ben offered her a chance to join him in the Brotherhood and continue the legacy of her ancestor, and she ultimately accepted the offer.
The two spent the next few weeks laying low while Ben slowly weaned Ava into the Assassin life and environment. When he decided she was ready for training in November, he brought her to a hideout in Montreal, where she met Ruby Mills, their perky technician and soon-to-be Ava's crush. They hooked her up to a newer, safer Animus in order to train her using the Bleeding Effect. They sent her through the memories of her 19th century Shawnee ancestor, Aveza Deryn, and her adventures during the War of 1812. Coincidentally, around this same time, an Assassin from Indianapolis named Chelsea Patterson called in and informed them that they had a lead on something known as the Armor of Gabriel near the lost Native site of Prophetstown, and asked for help. Finding themselves in the perfect position to search, Ava kept going through Aveza’s memories until she found the moment when she entered a First Civ Temple at Prophetstown, where she discovered a holographic message from the Precursor Gabriel warning Ava of a grave danger that was about to be unleashed upon the world. Naturally freaked out, Ava's questions would have to wait, as shortly after Ruby's computer was swarmed with unknown data telling them that the Key to Gabriel's Temple was passed into the hands of Aveza’s future apprentice, Priscilla Abbott, an ancestor of Chelsea. And so the group packed up and sped to Indianapolis as fast as possible.
Once in Indy, the gang met up with Chelsea and her younger cousin Carter, who had recently liberated Indianapolis from the Templar regime of Natasha Wolfgang and her lackeys. They explained the situation with Gabriel and asked Carter to hop in the Animus to try and find the Key in Priscilla's memories, since Chelsea's pregnancy put her out of commission. While Carter hopped in the machine, Ava was told she also had some memory exploring to do, since the data from Gabriel included some memories from her 19th century Indonesian ancestor, Apsarini Rajawali. Ava and Ben snuck into an Abstergo building to steal a second Animus, and during the mission they had their first run-in with the maniacal Templar Cole Morgenster, who was revealed to be Ava's Roanoke captor. They fought him off and escaped, and Ava began to explore her next set of memories. However, things began to get weird between sessions. The Bleeding Effect seemed to get worse and worse, and her grasp on reality deteriorated further and further as the visions of her ancestors bled into her own until her mind was a shattered mess. The final nail in the coffin was Carter's friend Jacob going rogue with a Staff of Eden, sending her into an intense mental shock that she was only able to escape from when Carter accidentally drove her into a fuse box. The gang was devastated for weeks while they all recovered. Ava found she couldn't take the stress anymore, and she screamed at her friends telling them she was quitting this gig, and that she would be out the door as soon as she finished up the last of Apsarini’s memories. After she punctuated her tantrum with snapping her necklace off and tossing it to the ground, her friends reluctantly put her in the machine. However, this proved to be a very bad idea. Apsarini had encountered a malevolent Precursor being named Lucifer when he triggered the 1883 Krakatoa eruption, and he impaled Apsarini so painfully that it transferred onto Ava and caused her Bleeding Effect to overload, sending her into a deep deep coma.
When she next “woke up”, she found herself on a mysterious island, where the only other inhabitant was a man named Desmond Miles. He explained to her that this was a digital world created in the very core of the Animus, and that it was the only safe place for her comatose mind to go. He explained that in order to escape, she'd have to reach a Synch Nexus by reliving the memories of the Mitochondrial Eve, which she could reach by exploring the memories of her ice age ancestor, Arktalaki, who had several run-ins with Precursor Memory Seals tied to Eve and her fight against Lucifer during the Human-isu War. Ava agreed and began her adventure, getting kicked out of the memories a few times along the way because, as she learned, Animus Island was not stable and was scheduled for deletion, meaning she was on a time limit. She took the time in between sessions to explore another set of required memories: those of her mother and young self, when her father was a part of their lives. She learned that her father had not simply abandoned them and disappeared when she was 4, but that he was a charming and loving Assassin who was killed by Cole Morgenster in 2000. Ava's mother had apparently brainwashed these memories out of her over the years, not wanting her to remember such a horrible sight and not wanting her to have any involvement in the war that killed her father. Nonetheless, this revelation resparked Ava's drive to stick with the Assassins and avenge her father, especially once she reached the Synch Nexus and learned that Lucifer and Morgenster were one and the same. She awoke from her coma, a new sense of purpose and a fresh mind full of determination. And despite her mother's sudden visit to tell her she was taking her home, Ava simply put her necklace back on, smiled, and declared that they still had a job to do.
