Description

Name: Ruby Mills

Born: May 27, 1996; New York City, New York

Allegiance: Assassins

Bio: Born in the New York slums to a mother who died in childbirth and an absent father she never knew, Ruby had a rough childhood by most people's standards.  She was raised on the streets, amongst violent gangs and rabid dogs and other horrors that the underground presents. However, despite her horrid environment, Ruby always kept a chipper and energetic personality.  It was her way of surviving and keeping sane, and it proved effective as her adventurous optimism always gave her the strength to survive all her misadventures. It also supplied her with many loyal connections, most notably when she joined the hacker group known as DedSec in 2011.  They taught her everything about programming and technology, and she used her new skills to bring down the corrupt elite and help innocent people in need. She left DedSec in winter of 2012, however, believing that her teammates had become more obsessed with “the message” than actually helping people.  She still kept them in her contacts, however, and they would prove a valuable resource in her next career.

Shortly after leaving DedSec, Ruby witnessed a bizarre sight while walking the streets of New York at night.  She saw a man parachuting onto a local Abstergo Industries building, and minutes later he came rushing out the front door with a mysterious object in hand before vanishing down the road.  A second man rushed out of the building not long after, a gun in his hand and a look on his dirty face that said he clearly hadn't taken his meds in a while. The scruffy man pinned Ruby against a wall and demanded to know where the first man went.  She probably would've been shot there and then had it not been for the intervention of a man named Ben Dylan, who fought the creep off and brought her to safety. He explained the madman was named Daniel Cross, an agent of the Templar Order that Ben fought against.  After a long talk, Ruby learned of his Brotherhood, the Assassins, and was definitely attracted to their goals. The two parted ways but had many encounters with one another afterwards. Ruby was eventually made an official member of the Brotherhood, and she's been putting her skills to their use ever since.

In November 2015, Ruby was stationed in Montreal along with Ben and his newest recruit, Ava Arlie, whom he was getting ready to train.  Ruby hooked their new friend up to an Animus and put her through the memories of Aveza Deryn, her ancestor from the War of 1812, to train Ava via the Bleeding Effect.  Coincidentally, around this same time, the Hoosier Assassin Chelsea Patterson called in and informed them that they had a lead on something known as the Armor of Gabriel near the lost Native site of Prophetstown, and asked for help. Finding themselves in the perfect position to search, Ava kept going through Aveza’s memories until she found the moment when she entered a First Civ Temple at Prophetstown, where she discovered a holographic message from the Precursor Gabriel warning Ava of a grave danger that was about to be unleashed upon the world.  Naturally freaked out, Ava's questions would have to wait, as shortly after Ruby's computer was swarmed with unknown data telling them that the Key to Gabriel's Temple was passed into the hands of Aveza’s future apprentice, Priscilla Abbott, an ancestor of Chelsea. And so the group packed up and sped to Indianapolis as fast as possible.

Once in Indy, the gang met up with Chelsea and her younger cousin Carter, who had recently liberated Indianapolis from the Templar regime of Natasha Wolfgang and her lackeys.  They explained the situation with Gabriel and asked Carter to hop in the Animus to try and find the Key in Priscilla's memories, since Chelsea's pregnancy put her out of commission.  While Carter hopped in the machine, Ava was told she also had some memory exploring to do, since the data from Gabriel included some memories from her 19th century Indonesian ancestor, Apsarini Rajawali.  Ava and Ben snuck into an Abstergo building to steal a second Animus, and during the mission they had their first run-in with the maniacal Templar Cole Morgenster, who was revealed to be Ava's Roanoke captor.  They fought him off and escaped, and Ava began to explore her next set of memories. However, things began to get weird between sessions. The Bleeding Effect seemed to get worse and worse, and her grasp on reality deteriorated further and further as the visions of her ancestors bled into her own until her mind was a shattered mess.  The final nail in the coffin was Carter's friend Jacob going rogue with a Staff of Eden, sending her into an intense mental shock that she was only able to escape from when Carter accidentally drove her into a fuse box. The gang was devastated for weeks while they all recovered. Ava found she couldn't take the stress anymore, and she screamed at her friends telling them she was quitting this gig, and that she would be out the door as soon as she finished up the last of Apsarini’s memories.  After she punctuated her tantrum with snapping her necklace off and tossing it to the ground, her friends reluctantly put her in the machine. However, this proved to be a very bad idea. Apsarini had encountered a malevolent Precursor being named Lucifer when he triggered the 1883 Krakatoa eruption, and he impaled Apsarini so painfully that it transferred onto Ava and caused her Bleeding Effect to overload, sending her into a deep deep coma.

Ben and Ruby stayed by Ava's bedside for weeks, monitoring her progress and hoping that she'd wake up.  Ben took it especially hard, putting all the blame on himself just as he did when his sister had died. Ruby did her best to calm him down despite her own worried state, and protested heavily when Ben said he was going to call Ava's mother, Kiki, and tell her about Ava's condition.  Despite her protests, Ben eventually called and Kiki was there in a furious heartbeat, only adding to the anxiety in the room. They all waited until finally Ava miraculously awoke. And Ben was hardly able to contain his excitement when she told them she had changed her mind after a soul-searching experience she had in the depths of the Animus, and that she was staying on the team, smiling and declaring that they all still had a job to do.
